Going to play RTJ next week, Prattville courses, Any tips?

We are heading out on a buddy trip next week and staying in Pratville playing the the 3 courses there. Anyone get out there and have any tips either on the courses or places to eat/drink after the round? We are staying on property and have rental cars.

Hit Dreamland BBQ near downtown Montgomery for a meal.

As far as the courses, all 3 are very good. The Judge and Senator get the most hoopla, but I really enjoyed the Legislator as well. Haven't played the Senator since they ripped out the bent greens, but I'd imagine the new greens are an improvement. Putting on the bent was fun, but during the summer the greens had to be kept too wet to keep them from burning up in the heat.

Don't know if Fat Boys BBQ is still there but it was excellent.

The greens are often tiered. It's often better to miss the green below the hole then to hit an upper tier. Not a lot of my local courses are like that and I wasn't prepared for it. I putt all the way off a couple greens.

I live 40 miles from there and play all 3 courses a lot when I'm
in town. I don't eat around there though.

Senator is fun. Grip and rip it over the doglegs. Just be careful not
to hit up on anyone. It's easy to do with blind tee shots. Looks like
a links layout but most greens are elevated and have to fly the ball
in.

Legislator is underrated. Great course. Front and back 9 like 2
different courses. Watch putts on 14 and 15. Looking at the green
from front to back the putts will break more to your right than it looks
because of the hill up left. If you're right handed and your miss is left,
this course can give you fits.

The Judge is the best course and most difficult. It's a blast to play.
#1 and the stretch #4-#7 are gorgeous holes with water in play.
The first par 3 isn't much but the other 3 are beautiful forced carries
over water. All 4 par 5s are TOUGH. Don't expect easy birdies, lol.

Have taken several trips down there. The BEST of the trail. I'm the only guy in our group that LOVES the Senator. Most of other guys like Legislator and Judge and Hate senator. I just like the options that Senator gives you. No trees to deal with, you can play any shot you like off the tee. Really frees up my swing and fits my game.

Tip on #10 Senator. off the tee go more right that you think. If you bomb the ball (which i assume you do based off your clubs) This is a short par 5 in which going right allows you to cut a hugh portion of dogleg off.

Also, we spend at lot of time in the hotel bar on property. Great place, lots of fun and don't have to worry about driving home

Yes, on #10 aim well right of the big tree in the distance. Even if you
don't hit the fairway you can reach the green in 2 90% of the time from
the rough.

I like the Senator too. It's a fun course. The sight lines are tough the first
few times you play it. Once you know where to aim, it's a blast!

LOL, hope you also have some "dri fit" type clothes. Tech fabrics pretty
much a staple in the summer when it's humid.

Absolutely, I will do a review when I return.

Great choice of courses. I liked the Senator as well. Lots of blind shoots though. You might want to purchase an RTJ trail card. It will save you about $20-$25 per round. I believe the card can be purchased for $40.00.

Small world...I'm heading down there on Thursday to play with a group of guys from the Atlanta area. What day are you arriving? I've never played at this RTJ grouping of courses but if it's anything like the other courses, I will love it. We are staying on property too so maybe we will run into y'all while there.

Also, I prefer the Lakes course at Grand National...just a personal preference but I think it's the prettier course.

PGA Tour will be playing The Lakes course in July opposite the
British Open. Both courses are great but The Lakes course is
the more scenic.

The event is The Barbasol Open. New sponsor. Hopefully TGC will
televise it since the Open will be on here early in the AM so can
televise in the afternoon. We'll see!

That bar is a good location. On Senator #17 (par 5). I haven't been in
there actually but can see the peeps as we play 17, lol.
