Made a chart to help decipher Ping dot system.

People seem confused about how ping paints the dots according to the relationship between actual lie of the head and length adj. of the shaft.

I was bored, so I made a chart.

This will hopefully make it easier to figure what your actually buying used and what you will need to do to adjust the clubs, if anything.

Probably doesn't warrant a sticky but if someone wanted to link to it from the inevitable next thread about this subject...

The top is shaft length offset, the left is actual lie. Cross check to see color Ping would assign. (Effective lie)

This is a great reference, thank you. What's really scary is how many "fitters" don't know how to use the system. Joe Blo wants white dot + 1/2", so the fitter screws the +1/2" shaft into the white dot head. Joe Blo is now mistakenly demoing a silver dot.

Pretty sure that Ping rounds up. So you would use the +1 inch color, 0.25 over would use the 0.5 etc.

Not positive though, which is why I kept it to .5 increments.

I think they do the math and split the difference. I custom ordered ⅜" gaps and WRX told me they measure to the eighth of an inch and adjust lie accordingly.

Go ahead and add +2" on there and maybe even +2.5" if you want. Going through WRX you can get there. I haven't gone to +2.5", but have gone to +2" through WRX department, with maroon and white dot.
