meh. found a few on the course sometime back and the cover doesn't hold up well at all. i got a few in my practice shag bag.

refurbished balls are terrible.

If I really needed to save money and wanted to play Pro V1s, I would go pretty far down the used ball rating scale before I bought refurbished balls.

Recycled are good to go. Huge difference.

Definitely avoid any refinished balls. They won't last more than a couple iron strikes. They strip the finish and repaint with crappy materials. I've found they don't fly as far, spin less and feel like the limited flight range type balls.

Problem is you never quite know what's under that fresh coat of paint. Might get lucky but I stay away from refurbished as well.

I'd always receive a couple of dozen of these from my well-meaning father-in-law for christmas every year. I'd play them, but they always seemed just a little off in a way I couldn't quite put my finger on. After reading up on the process I couldn't quite say I was convinced they were any worse (or better) than graded recycled balls, but sentiment around here had cast enough doubt that I stopped playing them and put them in my garage net/simulator shag bucket. I then started noticing their finish scuffing & flaking and then covers cracking MUCH quicker than other shag balls in the bucket. Anything refurbished I receive as gifts or find on the course still goes in the shag bucket, but that's about the only use I'll give them and I'm honestly not uber-picky about balls in general.

As for deals, watch around here and you can do really well on urethane tour balls in the $12-$18/dozen range, brand new. Recent RBG deals on brand-new ammo boxes of TM Tour Preferred and Callaway Hex Pro come to mind, but there have been plenty of others as well (which my current 55-dozen stash of balls attests to).
