Larger ball to boost childs confidence & enjoyment

Started taking my step son to the driving range last year and he enjoys it. but when we go to a pitch and putt or par 3 course he gets extremely frustrated as he is not very good, doesn't take instruction that well (autism) and struggles for any kind of consistency.

I thought about giving him a tennis ball next time and have him use the foot-golf holes instead but wondered if anyone else had other ideas. Can't seem to find 2" golf balls anywhere...

Great recommendation on yard club.. Do whatever you want to do to make it fun. Play from really short distances, make different rules, whatever you want to keep him engaged. As long as it doesn’t Damage course, slow down pace of play, or impact other people’s golf experience- have at it!

Thanks. Looks like that club is available here in the uk. He is 13 but has pretty poor hand eye co-ordination so that club looks ideal. will order the longest one (he is 5"5 currently) and report back in 2 weeks when we next head out...

I've found a ladies flex 29* 9 wood that might be a good fit for him. nice large face on it. its about 1/3 of the price of the yard golf club, although I do like the grip on the yard golf... ill probably get both...

Agree with the other gents regarding the Yard Club. It's massive...and it has a built-in grip for proper hand placement.

You also might try a racquetball for the ball he hits. They will feel softer and a but more squishy...if that makes sense.

You could also tell him that he can draw whatever he wants on the ball to customize it. The possibilities are endless there.

Bottom line is for the two if you to have fun...and it looks like you're doing the right thing to get there.

JJ mentions in the post above using a racquestball - if you feel that would be too large, might want to check out youth / beginners squash ball....IIRC, should be slighlty larger than a golf ball. There's no standard for these, so Dunlop, Penn, Wilson, etc... will be different sizes.
