Trimming down irons that are 1” over standard

What would be the effect of butt trimming irons to standard length that are 1” over standard?

Would just take them back to standard. Lose a coupe grams of static weight and 6-7 swing weight points.

They’ll play to a flatter lie angle as well.

It will also have a nominal impact on shaft stiffness.

Just did a set of Titleists, went from D3 to C7. Going to take 8 g tip weights to get them back to D2, which will be the same as soft stepping the shafts one time. Hope the guy likes them light!

Probably not. Soft/hard stepping equivalent is based on the total head weight, not just how much is added. If they were D3 at +1" - then you likely started with heads that were lighter than 'standard' and the added weight is really getting them back to a more normal head weight. So in essence - it was more likely playing the equivalent of a hard step at the longer length and you're just getting it back to normal with your mods.

I hope so. Young guy that ordered them has a very high SS, not sure that S 300 is enough shaft to begin with. He occasionally breaks wedge shafts with his steep approach.
