Mission Hills - Palm Springs

I won lodging and 3 rounds at any of the courses at Mission Hills and need to start working on the dates. I've never been to that area, so what is the "ideal" time to go to Palm Springs, weather and turf condition wise? Also, for those who have experience with the facility, should we just play all 3 courses or if we have the option, should we omit one and play one twice. Any info is appreciated.

> All three courses are good, but if you were going to leave one out it would probably be the Palmer. Play the Dinah Shore twice if you do that.

How is it in the fall/winter months? I know we had some availability in November/December?

In some ways, the prime season starts at Thanksgiving and the courses are ready.

Early November, it’s possible the courses aren’t quite ready after over seeding. Not horrible, but not their best.

December is good, but daylight is short, so schedule accordingly!

Edit.....just saw above post on desert willow....shocked they’re closed in December! As mentioned, schedule for overseed should be known, so check that before!

Good point on the overseeding - I'll ditto the advice to check the overseed schedule before you book your travel.

Like you, I'm very surprised to see Desert Willow shut down in December. Then again, for an overall superb public golf experience, some of their policies and procedures seem pretty odd.

As mentioned above, just plan for overseeding and summer temps.

Been there in Dec, when the sun drops, its dark and gets cold quick.

Peak season there'll be a lot of play. ANA is around April, so there's course closure there.

Right after ANA is Coachella, which (since you have lodging) could be good, it's just your flight. The courses in whole area aren't busy during Coachella, cause of the jacked up prices of lodging. We played Stadium TPC during coachella and it was basically wide open.

Played the course during this past Coachella (right after ANA) and the courses were in great condition

Everybody relax, I’m here

I asked staff about it. They run both courses from Oct 24 - Nov 11 and make a killing since most other courses in the valley are closed for overseeing. As always, follow the money LOL

I would say if you have a free day to play Desert Willow, they have two course both are nice but I enjoy Firecliff more. If you enjoy hiking I would hike to the cross. My wife and I do it atleast 2-3 times every time we are in the desert. It takes about an hour round trip. The views are beautiful up there. You can see Stone Eagle GC and Big Horn.

Leaving Saturday for Palm Springs. So far have Desert Willow Mountain View ( Firecliff closed for overseeding ). La Quinta Mountain Course and Indian Wells booked. Will probably play at least one more while I'm there. Depends on what else the wife wants to do.
