Who else is playing. It hit 108 during our practice round. Never felt this level of heat on a golf course...

Boys 9-10 playing much easier than IMG. Expecting low scores from the field.

I heard the boys 9-10 course is garbage this week. Hope you guys have fun though! It's supposed to be hot again tomorrow but cool down a little over the next two days.

A lot of kids seemed to have ran out of gas today after playing 54 at IMG then going to FCG in the blistering heat. I may jet down there tomorrow and watch a few kids.

Thought course would be easier, but actually playing longer than scorecard, at least in my opinion. A few par 4s playing 320+, which is making them difficult. Greens are slow and unpredictable given the shape in some areas. Fairways won’t run on this course and greens are hard but slow, so no stoppage like there was at IMG. I think kids coming from IMG are still having difficulty trusting how hard to hit putts given that Shadowridge had some lightening greens downhill and here not even close... also no caddies on greens so that may be playing a factor in scores.

Is this one of the top tournaments of the year? Or should we stick with IMG Junior World and/or USKG Worlds? My kid is 6 YO thanks.

Talk about no roll... My son's drives have been embedded, bounced backwards and sideways. Unfortunately for us the course is taking driver out of his hands on many holes. Can't wait to play it again next year since we will be in the same age division.

IMG and USKG are the two 12u majors. Honda, future masters and Callaway are bigger than USKG regionals but doesn’t have the size and strength of field as IMG and USKG.

I watched and he had to fight hard at the end. Biggest issue were the unpredictable greens. Also the fwys were mowed tight and firm yesterday, which caused some fat and thin iron shots, which I don't normally see him hit. He was playing with two Chinese kids who kept chatting with each other on the greens. I saw at least 4 times where Ronnie asked the kids to be quiet. Super annoying.

Participation could be significantly impacted by corona virus concerns

You think in five months it might still be an issue? I don't even think H1N1 concerns lasted that long.

I'm no expert, but my personal opinion is I do think it is going to last for a bit. It just seems to be getting started in the US, and each day brings confirmed cases in new countries.

You have to sign up for the tournament months in advance, and make travel arrangements as well. That is hard to do right now given how quickly things are changing.

Plus some of the most affected countries have historically sent many players to this tournament as well as IMG.

FYI - not sure where to post this but IMG is currently trying to figure out their World Championship right now. I inquired about the cancellation of many qualifiers and they asked that I reach back out in mid April. Sounds like they are trying to figure out many things.

Drive Chip and Putt qualifying was just cancelled for the year. Finalists will be invited to the April 2021 Masters to compete.

Since qualifiers are cancelled and many good players don't have a spot yet, they should make it like an 'Open' whereby you send in a resume to get in. At this point who knows if IMG will even happen this year.

Why does it seem like the FCG organization is just postponing events and holding onto fees while others are cancelling.

No idea. IMG was run by SDJGA if I'm not mistaken and most of those have been cancelled. Maybe Chris has hope that this will blow over. Do you think the international contingent will show up this year knowing this?

Hard to say, but I sure hope not. I'm not saying this due to competition either.

The 2020 PGA Championship at Harding Park is likely not going to happen in California. Heard they're looking elsewhere.

I live near Harding and have tickets. They sent a email out saying rescheduled to Aug 3 - 9 but I highly doubt this will happen unless they want to do it with no fans - I also understand that pga tour will start up again in June with no fans. Mediheal at lake Merced also cancelled. Bad year for sports

We received an official email yesterday that the IMG Worlds was cancelled.

After weeks of thoughtful consideration, the San Diego Junior Golf Association's Board of Directors made the difficult decision today to cancel the 2020 IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championships this July. The health and safety of the participants, volunteers, staff and golf course personnel was our primary focus and although this decision is heartbreaking, we feel it is the most responsible course of action at this time. Our goal will be to resume our SDJGA events as soon as we know the events can be operated in a safe manner. Our thoughts go out to the all of our members and their families as we know this has been very challenging time for everyone. Please stay safe and healthy!

Yeah, it's unfortunate for those kids that had already qualified. What I was most impressed with was that this event had been going on for 50+ years. Who knew?

Anyone playing FCG next week? They moved the 9-10's to Manifee, which is a dump compared to the desert courses.

I know a few kids going but you know them as well. My son qualified earlier this year and we had signed up but once I heard it was at Menifee we bounced out. He has played there before in TTC qualifiers and they have never been in good shape. Bunkers are more mud than sand, fairways are awful and greens are gimmicky.

Yup, we did 2 practice rounds there and I regret signing up everytime out. Bunkers are rock hard with no sand. Should be fun :(
