Personally, if I had a backup bag it would likely include a set of irons that are quite different (blades, old clubs, hollow-body distance irons) vs another set in the same general class (GI/SGI for me). But I am a bit different - the only backup clubs I have right now are a couple of wedges with different soles/bounce.

My back up sets are all from my 'oldies but goodies' collection (tho admitidly I don't bother with new equipment anymore). All gear that I've had over the past 15ish years and all bring good memories and have hit good shots (full sets of Ping, TM and Titleist gear). Nice to have a little familiarity at a possible time of searching (swing just not working right) or travel.

What's In The Ping Moonlite:
Ping Rapture '14 13*
Ping Rapture DI 18*
Titleist 690.CB 4/6/8/PW
Vokey TVD 54*
Odyssey Tank V-Line

@jjfcpa ,

Is your backup bag going to offer a change of pace, or are you looking for a bag of clubs that play similar to your Apex CF19 setup?

My backup bag came about suddenly with TaylorMade stock. It's based around SLDR irons 4-AW, with the Tour Preferred SW and Tour Spin LW, a Burner Driver and a RBZ Stage 2 3W/HL (17*), two vintage Burner rescues and a TM TPA.VIII putter. These all fit into a plain but sturdy blue-and-white TM stand bag I got for $95 at a holiday clearance. I hunted down matching blue-and-white head covers for woods and hybrids from kindly shop owners who had them laying around. These are the Jetspeed-era headcovers that had no club model listed, but were used on three different long club models that year.

What's In The Bag (As of April 2023, post-MAX change + new putter)

Driver:  Tour Edge EXS 10.5° (base loft); weights neutral   ||  FWs:  Calla Rogue 4W + 7W

Hybrid:  Calla Big Bertha OS 4H at 22°  ||  Irons:  Calla Mavrik MAX 5i-PW

Wedges*:  Calla MD3: 48°... MD4: 54°, 58° ||  PutterΨSeeMore FGP + SuperStroke 1.0PT, 33" shaft

Ball: 1. Srixon Q-Star Tour / 2. Calla SuperHot (Orange preferred)  ||  Bag: Sun Mountain Three 5 stand bag

    * MD4 54°/10 S-Grind replaced MD3 54°/12 W-Grind.

     Ψ  Backups:

  • Ping Sigma G Tyne (face-balanced) + Evnroll Gravity Grip |
  • Slotline Inertial SL-583F w/ SuperStroke 2.MidSlim (50 gr. weight removed) |

^^^Some version of this.^^^

The “backup bag” idea gets thrown around here quite a bit, and for the life of me I don’t understand it, other than having an identical set of clubs collecting dust in the closet in the unlikely event that our primary set is lost, stolen, or suffers some sort of catastrophic mechanical breakdown.

On the other hand, having a different/second/alternate set does makes sense, if you just want to have fun playing different clubs on occasion.

Titleist TSR3, w/Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue with Xlink Tech 65
Titleist 915Fd, w/Aldila Rogue Black 80-2.8-S

24* TSR3 Hybrid, w/Fujikura Atmos HB Tour Spec Blue 85
Mizuno MP-18 MMC 6-P, w/UST Recoil 95 F4

Callaway 58* PM Grind 19

I think I want some similar type of clubs to the Apex CF19's. I would probably use these for out-of-town travel as opposed to taking my regular bag. However, I would probably use it as a comparison set to make sure I'm still getting the most out of my CF19's, so it could change from time-to-time if I wanted to do some experimentation.

Definitely look for the latter. Something a little different, but not too drastic, that would allow me to ensure that my primary bag is working for me. Also, the backup would go on travel trips.
