Ferrule- effect on club

TIM929

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

My ferrrules lift on my clubs often and an iron shaft snapped before during a range season... I was wonder if the ferrules lifting effect anything in any way..

I just bought my TS3 a few months ago and it lifted already and was worried about performance or shaft snapping.

Thank you so much I’m advance.

For steel shafts, ferrules are pure cosmetics, (collared ferrules help to center the shaft during install, thats it), while for graphite, Ferrules helps to prevent the shaft from breaking on the hosel top.

OEMs dont use epoxy inside the ferrules, thats why they might climb, it all depend on how tight fit there is, but if you assemble yourself, make sure the ferrule has a drop of epoxy inside so it dont climb on the shaft.

If the hosel is properly bored out, you do not need a ferrule to protect the shaft. A recessed lip at the top of the hosel takes care of that. And for what it's worth, it's usually the collared ferrules that come loose, far more often then a standard flat bottomed one.

I’d use epoxy. Super glue is brittle.

This is how the 2 different types of ferrules work.

For countersink, ONLY IF we added the epoxy right, and drilled the hosel top right.

> No respectable OEM makes a hosel with a sharp edge. They all have the lip if they don't have the space for the collar. I am pretty sure they use the collar just to keep people from trying to fix things themselves. If you make it complicated enough, people will defer to the OEM to fix it.

i never saw a head for countersink made ready for Graphites, and you need both this drill bits to make it right.

The heads i had with Countersink was Wishon, Swing Science and Scratch, and non of them was prepared for Graphites, and this is not needed on steel shafts, so there is no reason for them to make them ready for graphites. If you just install like they come for steel shafts, you are taking a large risk, so there is a good reason for why this drill bits is made.

Heads is made for one or the other, both is good if its made right. (using the drill bits on the photo above on countersink)

Its not easy to modify a head who is delivered for CS to become Collared, its not a DIY for the kitchen table, while using this drill bits for Countersink is easy. (Golfworks has them)
