Founders Club Tour CB's

Would anyone here be able to tell me the original specs for this set of clubs? I have been playing them for 15 years, and cannot remember what the specs were before I had them bent 2 degrees flat. The only thing I am certain of is that they all have DGS300 shafts in them.

Now there is nothing wrong with the old Founders,I hit them just fine with not much of a divot, high with a nice little draw. It's just time for a change. So, I recently got fit for some Ping i20's, and was told that I needed to be standard black dot if I went with the stiff CFS shaft, and red dot if I went with the DGS300. I guess it doesn't make sense to me that I am moving more upright when I have been playing flat lies for as long as I can remember.

Any help with the specs on the Founders would be greatly appreciated!

I would also welcome any thoughts about the fitting.

Not sure the specs would do you much good since they have surely bent after so many years of play.

Wow, I guess I need to start using Google and give up on Yahoo search engine. I have been looking for this information for a week! Thanks. I also wanted to know what the lofts were as well, so this is great.

Had a set of those years ago, my set was the original tour cb without the Judge engraved into the sole, great irons and the specs should be correct as listed in above post.

The version I have are the ones with The Judge on the sole, and I think that is about the only difference between the two. I know they also released a Tour Cb II at one point. I was originally looking at Ping i20's to replace them, but the S55's have now caught my eye, and I need to test hit those. I figure if I can hit these well, I should be okay with the S55's , after all there is more technology in the insert than in my entire set of irons right now.

The cbII was 431 stainless, yours were Endo forged, mine were Hoffman forged, the 200 series blades, which I also own are Miura forged. The fitting parameters from Ping actually do make sense considering the softer shaft (cfs) could lead to a slight bit more toe droop than the s300. My advise would be make sure you have a dynamic fitting, outdoors on real turf with iron you are considering.

Very interesting. I had no idea about the different forgings. I worked a golf club in Concord MA, in the mid 90's and the head pro there was staffed by Founders Club at the time, and he gave me a really good deal on this set. I never asked him too much about them, just had them bent to my specs. I never got any paperwork, never looked at the catalog. These clubs still feel amazing even after all these years.

How do you know so much about the forgings etc.? And if you don't mind educating me, which were the better forgings of the cavity backs? I know Miura is outstanding in respect to the blades.

Met a former member of their PGA staff quite a few years ago, when just starting out seriously playing through a mutual friend. This gentleman gave me both sets over the years and educated me on the differences. Hoffman was a US based company and did the forging for the Titleist tour model as well, this company eventually closed because could not compete with overseas labor costs. Endo produces forgings for Bridgestone and Callaway, among others. Both were quality clubs. The blades were extremely highly regarded and used by Lee Janzen, Lanny Watkins, and Hale Irwin.

hale irwin with founders clubs? not that i remember. he went from wilson to cobra.check out the founders series 200 blades-sweet!

[/quote]Irwin played founders club fairways for years, even after switching to cobra and briefly after switch to Taylor Made, in addition to that Irwin played the afore-mentioned 200 series blades briefly between switch from Wilson to Cobra.

thanks for setting things straight. i too played founders fairways for years. i watched hale for many years and never spotted the founders. prob wasnt paid to use them. tom watson used a founders driver for a while too.popular on tour but never sold big to the public . could have used some taylor made type marketing.. i still game my judge 3 wood from time to time.

Golfworks has a pretty comprehensive db of specs on their website - or at least they used to.
