AD BB8x Driver shaft weight compared to AD BB8x 3 wood shaft/ 5 wood shaft

Looking to build a 5 wood in a tour ad bb8x shaft, after hitting a friends recently.

 

Could the knowledgeable amongst us explain what is required? Could i use a driver shaft cut down and put into a 5 wood head?

 

My friend was saying his is a 3 wood shaft (not a driver shaft) cut down to fit a 5 wood but I always thought the 8 defines the 80 gm weight of the shaft, or does it refer to 80gms weight for the length, ie a driver being longer than a 3 wood but both weigh the same for the differing lengths of shaft?

 

Not sure if i have explained that particuarly well, am hoping someone understands my gibberish

The 8 does define the weight of the shaft as the 80 gram range. That the weight of the shaft in it's uncut form. Any cutting will make it weigh less, since you are cutting off part of the shaft. It doesn't matter if you get a shaft that used to be in a driver or a 3 wood, since those should be long enough to cut and put in your 5 wood. You just need to know the amount it has been tipped(amount cut off from the tip). Then you just cut off any extra from the tip first if necessary, then cut the rest from the butt to get to desired 5 wood length.

OP...all AD BB 8x shafts are manufactured to 46"/~85 grams.

 

Whether your buddies BB 8x was trimmed to 5 wood length from a 3 wood length, it still began its life at 46"/85 grams before being trimmed to that 3 wood length....just as any BB 8x shafts trimmed to play in a driver at ~45".
