Good Bogie vs bad par

There is no bad par. Ever. It may not be what you wanted, or needed, but never complain about par. Or birdie putts.

IMO either one would drive me to the brink of insanity. On one hand you could literally miss a putt from 2 inches away always leading to a par, and on the other hand you’d never be able to play your absolute best.

How many of you just succumb to this mindset. I know I do. Here's a framing for example.

 

Par 5, on in two and three putt par. These drive me crazy.

 

Par 3 - Knock a ball in the water and am forced to re-tee. Knock third shot tight for tap in Bogie.

 

I'm way happier with the Bogie because I recovered well. Short term memory I guess.

 

I wanted to respond to this, this was such a good post.

 

 

A good Bogie or bad par? I will always take a BAD par. I am not a machine, I have good days and bad days, a Bad par is still a BAD par. thats one stroke less then a good bogie.

 

That being said, if I had 18 good Bogies, thats still a 90 and 18 bad pars that still a 72.

 

The score matters more to me that what I felt was good or bad.

 

I have had BAD shots that stayed int he fairway and netted me a birdie. Because I had a bad shot, means my day is done? Nope.

 

 

Final point and to me most important mental part? Bad par, means you HAD the opportunity for a good PAR or a Birdie. A Good bogie means you had to scramble just to not lose any more strokes again meaning limited potential? Your potential is at best bogie? I would never set my sights that low!

I would answer that not only does it not have to be this way, but that just isn't how golf works. I strive for birdie after birdie and am just fine with pars. I'm ok with good bogeys as well. Everything else can suck it.
