Thinking about replacing my MP-29s

I have been playing my mp29s for about 10 years, before that a set of Hogan Apex's. Always been a blade guy, never liked the way a CB iron felt or the ball flight.

I want another blade, but there is really no place local that actually carries any sort of blades. I had my heart set on a set of Miuras, but recently passed up a set of Callaway type X prototypes (now I think that was a mistake) I like the looks of the new Srixons, even the new Hogans. I know most blades will be similar, the look at address is probably the most important thing. This is kind of driving me nuts and I may just say screw it an play the 29s again this year.

Lots out there, best try them all. Callys feel very soft, nothing feels like a Mizuno, Srixons are nice, 718MBs are good too. Have fun demoing! Welcome to WRX. ;)

Played my MP 29s from 1996 thru 2005. I still have them but they are pretty worn and need new grips. Lofts are lower than current models but they feel great and are surprisingly forgiving. Shafts are Rifle 6.5.

 

I went to MP 60s for a few years with S300 shafts. Didn’t love them and eventually went to MP 63s. Currently, I have MP 25s and I have worked hard to bring them along. They have some nice features and I am enjoying them, but not like the 29s. Of course, I turned 70 so take that opinion with a grain of salt.

One big thing to keep in mind are the lofts of the irons. The newer Mizuno blades are pretty much the same lofts they’ve been for years, but other companies are changing things around. For example, Srixon has five degree gaps on their short irons with their newest blades, so make sure you check out the lofts on whatever you want to buy. That being said, your easiest switch is probably to stick with Mizuno. I can’t say enough good things about my MP 5s. The 4s and 18s also get a lot of love on here, though I’ve not hit those.

I can't comment on the new-new Hogans, but my Ft Worth 15's are noticeably larger than most blades. They make my old VR Pros look like butterknives (but smaller than my buddy's AP2's, for comparison). They are extremely forgiving and easy to hit for a blade though, and have been in my bag 3 years now. The new blades that have caught my attention in recent years are the Apex MB and Cobra King MB, and the iBlade was so easy to hit it was like cheating.
