New Cally X Forged?

Recommended Posts

The Epic in the picture is the Pro version? What did the non-pro Epic irons look like? Still cavity back like the original, or more forged look? IIRC, the Star was the lightweight version of the GBB stuff, but there was a game improvement version of the Epic irons that was more cavity backed.. Any idea if this is a complete offering overhaul or primarily the Pro version only?

> Feel is similar, they both don't have that true fully forged feeling. I would place the Epic on top though, it feels reasonably soft but with a huge explosion off of the club face because of the super thin, hollow head. The head really pops. Size I would give to the P790. Taylormade did a great job of slimming down the head. The Epic I hit was the larger one (so I cannot comment on the smaller guy) and it was about the size of the X-Forged UT iron. Ballspeed, hands down on the Epic, however, to be a true test you would have to go P790 5i to the Epic 6i to make the lofts the same. Again as I said in my initial review, I'm lucky to get about 116 BS out of my New Levels, P790 I get about 118, but the Epic I was getting 125. I could be wrong but I don't think you would see 7mph difference between one club (26.5* in P790 vs. 24* in Epic) when PGA Average is around 3-4mph per club. In that regard, I give the edge to the Apex. Height, both would be similar, spin as well.

So, you hit the non pro version right? I’m more interested in the new Epic Pro vs the P790

Irons are $400 CAD per head (remember, the Epic iron line is meant to combat PXG and XXIO, it is not their flagship line and you will likely not see these kicking around at DSG or Golf Galaxy). The lofts are stronger than Apex CF19 and Rogue, but are the same as Rogue X aka they are bang in line with other JDM loft offerings. Stock shaft is a Steelfiber FC 90, not sure if they have a "steel" option or not but if they do I would imagine it would be a Nippon of some shape or form given the market they are trying to attract here (smooth, light, higher, etc.). The impressive thing here is the ball speed. Yes, I understand for most here this is the same loft as their 5 iron at 24/25* or for some even the 4, but let me just preface this by saying I am best case scenario getting 116mph ball speed out of my 6i right now. I was consistently getting 125mph out of this guy and high peak height. Spin was in the low-mid 4000s as expected for something of this loft. However, I was carrying the 6i 190y when mine I'm lucky to carry 170-172y on most days at 28*. I carry my 4 hybrid at 21* of loft the same as this 6i....this thing is freaking insane!

> The body is forged from 1025 carbon so it can be bent just as easily as the Apex/X-Forged lines. It feels exactly like an Apex so for those who hit the Epic and were unimpressed by the feel will love this. The ball just explodes off of the club head. In terms of size, it looks like the X-Forged UT behind the ball in the sense that you can see a little blip of the sole coming out from behind the top line. Offset is small, similar to Apex. Price is big yes, but man oh man am I going to sell a freaking ton of these.

So $400 CAD so US will be about $300 an iron. Wonder if their hollow body version will be filled with goo or foam.

It needs to be super duper good for Cally to move them at that price point.

when you come out with 17 different irons each year you are going to cannibalize them eventually

Will have to see in person I guess - but the initial pics don't look great
