Heads are looking great. Did you measure head weights before and after the chrome was stripped?

I've re done all the paint fills now with nail varnish & it's much easier to work with & they look great, I'll get some pic's up.

I'm just waiting for a wire brush drill attachment to arrive now to clean the shaft bores out before I assemble them.

I didn't weigh them before no, I didn't think to, I wonder how much weight the chrome would add + if it's noticeable the short Irons have a bigger area so will loose more.

Very nice indeed, you've done a great job. Any thoughts on maintaining them once they're in use, or are you happy that they acquire a dignified patina?

My clubs always get cleaned after each round, I use warm soapy water & a soft brush, so they shouldn't rust, I could never get my raw Vokey's to rust.

Or I could give them a little spray of WD40 or GT85.

The wire brushes have arrived & I've started to assemble, so shouldn't be long until they're ready for play :-)

Does anyone know if epoxy goes off, I've got half a tube left from when I re shafted my Ping eye 2 + wasn't sure if I should use it or just buy another.

Very nice work. Curious, where did you get the shaft bands? I want to replace mine on my Apex Edge Pros.

Contact this seller on ebay, he's very helpful

I've sent a few sets to Continental Golf to be stripped and refinished. I did not measure before and after, but Justin indicated in a PM that I was losing 2 grams per head. This would sound right as I've had little issue achieving the same swing weight on each re-build.

I bought a set of these not that long ago from my local Play It Again. They were sitting on the floor, in the bargain section, labeled $39.99. My set is 2-E, and has Apex 5s in them. I've actively been trying to find a set of 2006 Apex Edge pocket cavities to pair with them. My chrome looks about the same as yours, dinged and oxidized, but you can tell that there are no major dents in the forgings and the grooves are still fine. I've been wanting to refinish mine, but I don't want to pay the prices some of the refinishers are charging. I've been trying to source a chrome stripper, and then I'm considering having the combo set Copper PVD coated...so I've been trying to source an economical option for that.

Thread resurrection by a brand new member !

Looks like these are now for sale on ebay UK - putting item number 124050812258 into the search box will find them.

Sorely tempted by them as they are the 99 model - I have the 88 redlines and also some Apex Pluses, and previously had Edges and before that Directors.

The redlines were fantastic to use and made a round pleasurable just because you were hitting such beautiful clubs.

(The Edges were a mistake though and helped me practise in some bad swing faults - they were too soft and didn't give you the feedback required to 'maintain swing discipline')

If CD17 is still reading (don't think I can message directly being a new member) how did the shaft change go ?

I can't really see the head condition from the auction so, being raw, I wonder if he has left them go a bit. Says he isn't hitting the long irons as he would like for his reason for sale.

ARe the grooves in these really conforming - the USGA database has the 98 as conforming but the 99 as not - but the head pictures are the same and as far as I know there was only one model then - although I have seen the Justin Leonard edition referred to as the 98.

The 99's were submitted to the USGA as 98's since that is when they were 'introduced' from what I understand. The picture from the USGA shows a 99. The Justin Leonard ones are just a commemorative badging of '94 channel backs if memory serves. I have therefore treated the '99's as conforming

That database is rather flawed, in my opinion.

the whole groove regulation thing seems a little crazy when they are letting drivers into the game that hit way bigger distances and therefoe pretty much invalidate the golf course designs where the architect assumed certain distances and placed hazards accordingly.

I think most clubs with V shaped grooves and normal groove spacing could be made compliant by just making sure the groove shoulders are 'bevelled' off to the correct angle - my 88s are a lost cause because of the square grooves making the overall groove volume likely to be too large.
