How to flick your wrists for a better swing

I'm not sure how useful this device can be, when looking at data from a lot of different golfers, if it doesn't have a way to measure the grip position (strong vs. weak). After all, one could argue that extension of the wrist in a very strong grip is playing the same role in the swing as radial deviation with a very weak grip, but unless the hand position is also recorded and measured, the data is going to be confusing, is it not?

LIke most of these device (GEARS, MYSwing, etc) there is a calibration required prior to using.

The device is calibrated to your wrist. Don’t follow why you are concerned with grip strength. Depending on your grip you will start off with some degree of extension etc. more important that the device is calibrated to neutral - to get accurate readings when used.

I don't know enough about this to have an educated opinion one way or another, so I'm just spit balling. When talking about what % each of these different parts of the swing contribute speed, those numbers are kind of in a linear sequence yes? That energy has to get transferred from those different parts to the club head and the last piece of that is the hands/wrists being attached to the club. Is it possible that someone who doesn't release or "flick" properly (lag holder, angle holder, etc...), loses some of that energy at the hands/wrists? Not just % that the wrists contribute, but also some of the energy that is being transferred from the rest of the body? Kind of a power drain/suck or inefficiency. If you learn to release/flick or whatever you want to call it, properly, you can access more than just the 6% being discussed here? Just a thought, but shouldn't an inefficiency anywhere in a sequence leak some of the energy sent to from the earlier phases in the sequence? I could be completely wrong as well

As I said earlier, grip strength changes the perspective of any of the four elements the device DOES measure. Radial deviation in the backswing does a very different thing to the club with a weak grip than it does with a strong grip. So, if you wanted to change your grip, that would be a very useful element to be able to measure. If you have a strong grip and your reading an article by a Hackmotion using golf instructor who has a weak grip, his points aren't going to be very helpful to you. If you're someone who uses a strong grip on your full swing, but a weaker grip in your short game, this'll get a little confusing. Hackmotion is marketed to teaching professionals. Unless they force all their students to use the same grip position, collecting data on all their students is going to get messy. And so forth...

My comments have strictly been about how little energy can possibly be stored in the muscles that control the wrists. You are getting into questions about swing mechanics, which I haven’t commented on.

To get at what you are wondering about: We can think about locking the wrists so that they can’t store or release energy. If we have swing mechanics that create the best release of the energy without any wrist involvement, so that the clubface achieves maximum speed near the ball and hits the ball with a maximum smash factor, then freeing the wrists would contribute a very small amount of value and that value would be based on energy store in the muscles that control the wrists.

However, if our swing mechanics are dependent on some motion of the wrists in order to achieve the best release of energy and the best smash factor then wrist activity is a positive contribution. But not because the wrists are adding a significant amount of energy, because they aren’t. Rather because the wrists are contributing to the best swing mechanics for the player. And I would argue that this is different for different players, and that by far most players have some level of wrist involvement to make the mechanics of their swings work well.

So, in this sense, yes to your comment, as I see it.
