Reading Greens in Colorado

I'm starting to figure out where my handicap is going

3 putts have krept back into my game since I left FL.

I'm really struggling with how much the break will break. In fl it was a no brainer. Here flat lies still pig tail 4" at the end if you try and kill it at the hole.

Any tips/rules of thumb you guys follow when putting foothills courses vs. Some of the eastern courses?

Thanks

    Which courses are you playing???

I'm up a bit north of you, but a lot of the Denver courses, especially west metro can have some pretty severe mountain effect...where everything breaks hard away from the mountains...of course this can be mitigated by course design, water features, etc....

For the most part foothills. Which has no flat greens on the entire course.

    Then meadows and deer creek.

If you want fun, try South Suburban after a long, dry spell. Slanted, concrete driveways will putt like shag carpet in comparison. image/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Ha! I think ill avoid that situation to preserve what sanity I have left

Played overland las saturday after a good rain. Still lightening fast.

Sunday ill be at highlands ranch gc for a 2 man scamble. Hope its a little more forgiving than the foothills area courses

We're planning on getting there this summer and I've heard it's pretty slow play. I'm sure the greens are a huge, huge reason. There's a private course in Evergreen, Hiwa or something like that, that one of the local pros told us about. He said the greens were unbelievable, so if we combine that one with South Suburban I'm pretty sure we'll be ready to give up the game by the end of the day.

Played the Air Force Academy on Saturday - Holy ****. Everything runs away from the mountain, have to keep that in mind. Had so many uphill fast putts and downhill slow putts tough to wrap your head around it. Definitely going back - it was fun.
