Inevitably with a captain from one of the disparate number of countries that make up the ?foreign' team (Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Canada and South Africa) there will be some dispute over the two picks Gary Player had at his disposal. Lonard, the winner this year at Hilton Head as well as the past two Australian Opens was the next man in line and an almost automatic pick given he is inside the top twenty on the money list.

With Ernie out with a self-inflicted injury, Player had only Retief Goosen from his won country and he came up with the stunning idea of picking Trevor Immelman who was some way down the points list behind Robert Allenby, K.J Choi, PGA runner-up Steve Elkington and a player who I think may turn out to be one of Australia's best, Geoff Ogilvy.

Many will think that Geoff Ogilvy may of been the better wild card pick.

The Melbourne man, much like Goosen, is prodigiously talented and many wondered why his results have never really matched the potential of his swing and his game. It took Retief the best part of a decade to produce the type of results Ernie was doing from almost his first week out but once he figured it out he very quickly became one of the best players going around. Ogilvy, almost a decade younger, plays a similar beautifully powerful game but his temperament is somewhat different. While Goosen is stoic and always composed, Ogilvy has been known for his volatility and a complete intolerance of his own inadequacies and mistakes.
