I am very anti-Torrey after playing it this past year. If I lived in San Diego and could pay the local rates...I still wouldn't play it regularly.

When you can pay $2k for 3 nights at Pebble and play Pebble, Spy and Spanish, $5k for this is a waste. I'd look to put the rest of the money into rounds at MPCC, Pasatiempo and then trying to find access to the big name privates between the peninsula and San Francisco.

While I disagree strongly on Torrey, I fully agree with you that the price of this cruise is waaaaay too high and you could spend that kind of cash playing all the great tracks along the coast. If it was Regent or Crystal I might get it but for Pacific Princess, no way.

I can think of fewer worse places to spend your leisure time then on a cruise ship.

Anyways to the 'tour'. While not a scam as such, what a MOFO RIP OFF! I took a quick look on the celebritycruises website and I know what the golf and staying at Pebble costs, and I did the math quickly and the markup by these guys is about a gazilion percent. Someone would need to have their head examined to pay for what they are offering.

'Company' has an address is some housing estate, with a filing date of January 27, 2014, and the website is two days old.

I too am perplexed with Mr. Texas rant against Torrey but to each their own. I'd BAIL on that cruise idea. TOO many choices for great road trip golf along SoCal to NorCal drive PLUS you can try courses inland in Temecula/Palm Desert.
If you got some cash to burn... try the Grand Del Mar which is a Fazio course.

Most of all just enjoy the trip and play some golf.

I agree with the above: Torrey (mainly south, but also north) is nice and always a pleasure. And for $5k your can play pebble, spyglass, spanish link, torrey and stay in a nice little hotel in carmel for the first days and find yourself a nice hotel in La Jolla.

Good to know not everyone is anti-Torrey. It is on my bucket list along with Pebble.

You all have some good suggestions. I will have to look into the different options. Pebble is the most important part of the trip, and everything I put together was around 3k for 2-3 nights (looking through the web and on their site). An 8 day vacation for 5k looked reasonable, but I never thought about the road trip option. Not being from California, I didn't really consider it.

For the green fees for Pebble, Spyglass, Spanish Bay, Torrey North, Torrey South i played about $1'200.
And about the same for 6 hotelnights in Carmel and La Jolla. Plus some presents, food and drinks for maybe 400$
Means: $3k are a very good budget for the entire trip of 8 days. You won't be able to stay in the president suite, that's for sure.
But you'll get along with a smaller budget.

That is a good budget. Where did you stay in Carmel? My understanding (which could be wrong) is to get a tee time in advance, I have to stay at the Resort property (which pushes the hotel costs up). Did you just go and do the 24 hour reservation on Pebble?

I was staying in a very nice, small and cozy bed & breakfast called Colonial Terrace. Clean, great breakfast with a fantastic view to the ocean and close to the beach and village. What else do you need?!

To play a round in Pebble you do not have to stay in the Resort. To book a round call a week or two prior to be on the very safe side. If you are playing alone it might be fine if the ago there the week prior and book it directly.

This looks like a similar idea to those Kalos golf cruises, which look really interesting. I can't quite afford those, but this is in my range.

I wouldn't shy away from it because others have found alternative ways to get on Pebble. I just posted a similar comment on a different thread, but my thought is that if you want to play a certain course (and here it is 2), then use the method that will make sure you get on that course. It seems risky to me to pay tons of money to get out to Pebble and not have a tee time. If you are going with more people, your tee time chances go down.

I would stay at the resort, so for me, my airfare and 3 nights at the Lodge would cost around 2800. 5000 total for 8 nights sounds good. Now, I just need to find the right persuading factors for my wife...

I just ran across a site (majorsgolfcruise.com) advertising a cruise where you can play Pebble Beach and Torrey Pines South along with a couple other courses. Anyone have thoughts?

Skip Torrey, overrated in my opinion.

Pebble is far better.

Pebble is better - that's for sure. But you cannot compare a Ford Mustang with a Honda Accord.
Torrey South (and also North) are great courses with some spectacular views and the value for money ain't that bad.

Pebble is Pebble. But Torrey is Torrey.
