How can you complain about your score?

Where's Richie Hunt ? I thought it was proven recently that long game was more important than short game in scoring

Tater - I believe you can do the fairway numbers you quote. What is your cap? I've played with other very straight and not that long hitters in my day
Not trying to be an arse, this is just a good debate

Proximity to the hole is a different animal. I am always amazed at how far the tour guys are from the hole. The averages are much higher than you'd think

And your fifteen feet goal is a good one but unless you play off a +6, or are on some sort of tour, it can't be done (unless your drives are beside the green on all the par 4's)

I recall one gent with a post on here not long ago telling us that he always hits it to four feet. That was a Stat !!!

I'm a 3.7 as of the end of last year. Putting is my weak point, averaging somewhere in the vicinity of 34 putts a round. A normal round for me is 12 GIR and no penalty strokes. If I take 36 putts, I shoot a 78. If I get down to 30 putts, I'm down to 72.

Hence the 15 foot comment. I know I'm a weak putter (and am working on it). If I want to score better, I can't be leaving myself 25-30 foot birdie putts on a consistent basis.

EDIT: No offense taken. Good discussion. I'm 6-5 and around 215 lbs. I CAN hit the ball much further. But I play on a very tight, tree and house lined course. I'd rather hit a 160 yard second shot than an 80 yard approach ... after launching 1 OB.

For me driver rarely gets out of my bag at the range unless its the first club Im using off the tee box, but then again, I hit my driver pretty well. A great day at the range is pitching from 50 yards in and chipping a couple of basket full of range balls to my 3 foot circle. Putting I do spend time with but more on lag putting and working on the whats called the wheel. Anyhow, your friends who beat the driver all day good for them. In terms of improvement, usually half the strokes given are for putting so if they dont see that, then money in your pocket.

[/quote] Sounds to me like you gotta give yourself a bigger target on the greens to start with. You say you dont want to leave yourself 25-30 foot birdies so next round out tell yourself your goal is to get within a 10 foot circle. I think with the bigger target, the pressure might be less and execution will be more likely. Hope that helps. Im at a 4.9 and found that as my sorta go to thinking and its helped me in dropping some strokes.
