which SS to use to be a better player, and if slower than what iron shaft strategy?

I have been playing for 2 years, I shoot in mid 90s per round, driver SS=105, and play Nike VR pro blades with TT DG S300 (and love them).

After tinkering with the driver shaft all last year I came to a conclusion I prefer lighter shafts - a bit higher dispersion, but more distance and also just easier to swing.

 

So here comes my question. I am starting to like swinging easier or slower with the irons, too - say around 80 mph with mid irons. Yes the ball doesn't go as far as normally unfortunately, but good contact, and just more fun overall it seems. So I am debating trying lighter shafts. What I want to know is this. If I put lighter weight iron shafts, would I feel as comfortable swinging at a slightly higher speed than 80, or my mind would still force me to swing at this SS? In other words, are the heavy shafts partially responsible for my desire to slow down or just my lack of skill?

 

What shafts should I try at such iron SS? I do like the precision of S300 but am trying to find even better match. I do find them to be a bit heavy, but maybe that it's ok.

Similar boat as you. I just got fitted and I think the Nippon 1150 was the shaft I hit the best.

The recommendations were the s300 and the one I chose. I am a low ball hitter, and these seemed to launch a little higher, but not much higher.

It was slightly lighter than the s300 if I remember correctly.

My 6 iron swing speed was 82 each swing.

It's known that there is a definite fitting relationship between the weight of the club and the players tempo and rhythm. However, the specifics of that relationship can vary quite abit between different players. Many with natural tendencies to get faster than they want to do indicate that heavier weights can help them (as a reminder to) keep the tempo from getting away from them. For others it's not as much a matter of controlling the tempo but finding the best weight to match their sense tempo.

In your case, it's probably more a conscious choice to slow down because you know that it gives you better results. However, the heavier weight could be contributing to being able to successfully achieve that goal. That does not mean you can't reduce the weight some and still end up with a good feel or results. The only way to find out is to actually go try shafts of different weights.
