Lajosi DD201 vs Byron DH89

Recommended Posts

Familiar with the DH89, as I bag one, but curious if anyone can compare how the Lajosi DD201 compares in quality, feel, etc.

Both look fantastic to my eye, just never putted with a Lajosi. All responses appreciated.

Steve, I can't comment specifically on the DH89 vs DD201 comparison. I do however have comparable models from both Byron and Lajosi-- heel-shafted mid mallets (8812 with Byron and Bayzie HSM with Lajosi). I can say without hesitation that there is absolutely no drop-off in feel or quality from one to the other.

Some other takeaways...and not to take anything away from Kari, my personal opinion is that there isn't a finish out there that rivals the brushed blue from Byron.

I can't say for certain, but I don't believe there's any up-charge with Kari for different face millings within reason (Sean may be able to verify). Might also be able to do more custom options like inserts with Kari for a reasonable price. I do also love my milled shaft bands with Lajosi.

I'm 100% happy with both and would recommend either artisan with no hesitation. Hopefully someone more familiar with both of these specific models in question will chime in, but in terms of product quality I don't think there's any drop-off either way.

While I don't own a DH89, I do have a welded neck 611 and a DD201 mini and both are exceptional putters. Quality and feel are on the same level. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another putter from either one of these fine gentlemen.

I agree 100%. It would be nice if Kari could develop some more finishes, as that is the area that Byron really stands out, in comparison, in my opinion.

However, the rest you say, I also agree with. Karis' work is excellent, and he is very easy to deal with, and competitively priced too. The only drawback is that lack of finishes in comparison to Byrons' work.

I have a Lajosi DD201 and the quality is top notch. Another added bonus for Kari is he can machine graphics or any design you want into the putter (Byron might be able to do this but just not sure).

I have the v groove milling on a SS putter and the feel is great. Firmer than deep milled if that's what you're after

Great to see that Kari Lajosi is getting the respect and attention he deserves through a comparison with Byron Morgan.

I own a Lajosi AD202 (deep milled carbon) and a just acquired the DH89 (A SS with hand milled Tuna).

I echo the sentiments about the quality of these artisans and how workable the ordering process was (have spoken to Kari himself on the phone & used Steve for my Byron).

Another to consider - I'm liking Kari's new DD201 WB (wide body) at 360g. Great concept if you're between blade and mallet or just like a heavier head. Reminds me of Kenny Giannini's G-2 Chubby which is a very innovative putter.

Price wise, you'd get a better deal with Lajosi. I own a DD201 (see avatar) and don't think it looks like a 009 as much as a DH89. It's a little more square on the heel, which reminds me of the Rory McIlroy Cameron.

Feel wise, it's super soft with the deep milling. If I do it again, I'd opt for the lizard pattern. I can't compare its feel to a DH89 b/c I never had one.

Milling by Lajosi is far superior than any putters I've seen.

Kari's Deep Milling = pretty much flawless. I often find myself just staring at it. :help:

Me too lol

Kari's deep milling on plated carbon steel and on VASS303. The VASS303 feels much sharper and softer.

This is interesting as I've read that carbon steel is softer than SS. I haven't decided which material to choose.

On the carbon steel putters, does the plating affect the milling?

Should VASS303 be Victoria Australian St. St.? (Kari is in Melbourne, Victoria)

Cheers

Feel is very subjective and personal- It's important to remember the grip and shaft can also contribute to a softer feel.
Both the plated carbon steel & 303SS can be very similar in feel with a deep milled face - and the plating doesn't affect the milling.

VASS303- is Italian 303 Stainless Steel, which is Vacuum Annealed.
