Best fitter in east Virginia?

Looking to get fitted into some new mizuno irons, as well as new shafts for my current MP32 set. Would also like to try and get fitted for wedges if possible.

 

I'd be willing to drive 2-3 hrs each way if necessary. I'm in hampton roads area.

Anyone used Hodson Golf in Richmond?

I frequent International Golf on Witchduck Rd in VB. Paul is pretty good and they have a launch monitor so if you know what type of numbers you want you can hit in that but I think you could probably find a better fitter. Not sure though if it'll be in Hampton Roads though. There doesn't seem to be anyone super knowledgable in this area any longer. Maybe one of the Pros at either Signature, VB National or Heron Ridge could be of help but the issue will be having the equipment to do the fitting. May have to look in Richmond or DC area.

Jason in Suffolk at golf etc.. only complaint is it's a smaller shop so you can't get the fish bowl feeling. There was even a groupon that still might be out.

Hodson in Richmond was the name I kept hearing when I was looking for one

I'm gonna give Hodson a shot. Hopefully he will be able to fit me in without having to wait a month.

There is a guy in Portsmouth that is really good. Mom and Pop type guy and he is an actual master club fitter, not just a PGA teaching pro. He is very knowledgable and talks over my head when getting into fitting/clubs/etc and I have a pretty decent understanding of it. He has a small shop called Red's and his name is Frank. I used to have hi number, but my phone lost all of its contacts!

Golf etc in Suffolk is an authorized Ping Inflight fitter, but you will pay top dollar for it and really offer no discounts. Even the grouping is pricey if I recall.

He retired, but still does a lot of stuff with golf. I may be able to get his number as I know where he like to hang out!

Is Red's the shop off Freeman Blvd and Brainbridge? I stumbled into his shop one day and had at least an hour long conversation. We talked a lot bout grooves and he dug out a ping wedge that he ground the face smooth (grooves) and said he played it for an entire season to prove that it wasn't just the grooves. He is quite the character!!!!

That was at least 18 months ago and he said e was stepping away then, but trying to train a couple guys.

That would be him. He actually makes custom club head pullers that work brilliantly. He made one for me and I love it.

Beau Redman, who used to caddie for Ray Floyd, plays an old Ping wedge that basically has a smooth face as he pretty much smashed the grooves together. He still spins the crap out of the ball with it! I used to play with him weekly, but I moved and am lucky to see hime once a year.

Hodson is the real deal and a very nice guy to boot. I wouldn't consider going to anyone else now.

Agree on Hodson 100%. Got me dialed in and was so far off my usual setting it was enlightening. But he is awesome.

I would give another vote for Paul at Golf International. He really knows his club fitting and doubles as a TMAG rep. I had him work on my clubs a few times and trust him more than anyone else in that area.

Since he doesn't do Sunday fittings hopefully the rain will stay away during your time Saturday. Mine is Tuesday.

I live a few miles away from his shop and a member of that range/club but as busy as he is I feel like I hit the lottery getting a fitting time before the summer. When I see him next week I'm not sure whether to kneel and kiss his ring first or simply shake hands.

His booking schedule is a contradiction that properly fit golfers are a small group. He must fit thousands a year. He's so popular he has fitting membership plans. Gotta luv it.

Mine is "scheduled" for tomorrow at 5pm. We'll see if it really is. I actually contacted Charlie Sampson of Charley Sampson Custom Golf Clubs before Hodson because I heard Hodson was almost impossible to get a appointment. Sampson won't be back in the area until mid-May. He spends six months here and six months in Florida.

If Hodson doesn't work out I'll look at a few other options.
