if you average less than 75 your #1 on most D1 schools because thats like a +1 handicap or better.

If you shoot in the 70's consistently your in at most schools.

That is not anywhere close to true. There are 270 ranked DI teams in the Golfstat rankings and 292 in the Golfweek rankings. As an example I will use a school I have some knowledge of - Birmingham Southern. They are number 211 in the Golfstat & Golfweek rankings, but have 2 players with tournament stroke averages of 73.6 or better.

Like others have said there is a heck of a lot difference in a 75 tournament average and a 75 practice/qualifying average. I would be willing to put a lot of money on the fact that at least 6 or 7 players at Birmingham Southern average below 75 in practice/qualifying.

Are there DI schools were a sub-75 average would put someone at number 1? Of course, and there are probably a good many, but I definitely don't think it can be said that this would be the case at most DI schools.

I'm sorry again...I did not say a 75 scoring average at a AJGA or practice etc. I already cleared that point up but again here is what I said on that subject..."If your less than a 75 average your #1 on most teams" Is this not true?? I don't get what I am saying wrong??

So infact it is 100% true, you proved that in your post when you said "They are number 211 in the Golfstat & Golfweek rankings, but have 2 players with tournament stroke averages of 73.6 or better."

A sub 75 scoring average means you are the #1 player on probably 100% of D1 schools...I'm sorry I don't mean to come off as a "d%*k" but Your arguing with me without reading previous posts where I clearly said I was talking about college scoring average.

The last thing I'm trying to do is start an argument, I just think reading the whole post you can clearly see this has come up already.

Maybe I am confused by what you are arguing, but the 2 guys at Birmingham Southern - a DI team that is well below the average - have college tournament scoring averages this year of 72.9 and 73.6. That means there is 1 guy on a team well below the average DI school has a player averaging below 75 who is not number 1.

If you mean that a player has to average below 75 to be number you are correct, but that is not what I took it to mean. I took it to mean that if a player averaged below 75 they would always be number 1.

73 scoring average, number 1 in a DIV 1 school. No I know why there isnt many young up and coming americans.

I thouhgt DIV 1 college golf was higher standerd than that!!

I really can't stress how hard the courses are. The other day for instance, I had a bit of a high round on my first 18 of a 36 hole day. I shot 79. At face value, this looks horrible. But then you take into consideration the conditions (wet and windy), the course (7,200 and very hilly), and the pressure, and it's not that bad. When I entered the 79 into the USGA computer as a tournament from the back tees, it came out as a 1.8. So imagine then what a 73 would be under those same conditions.

These conditions are typical of a lot of college tournaments. If you can average 73 on these courses, in these conditions, carrying your bag for 36 holes without a break between rounds (you go from 18 to 19 like any other hole), then chances are you are going to do pretty well.

I have to agree with this statement completely, it was a rare day when it was calm or above 50*. In the NCAA Qualifying tournament it frickin' snowed!!!!

One kid on my team didn't make it his freshman year and made fun of us every day because we were shooting average of 76. He made the team the next and played in the first tournament and fired a solid 170 for 36 holes. He never heard the end of it.

DIII isnt all that bad either, i wouldnt talk down on it. I go to a d3 school that placed ninth last year out of 49 d1 d2 and d3 schools at New Englands. We beat two d1 teams, beat every d2 team, and came in second in d3. There are some d3 schools that have some good players up here in the northeast, schools like Skidmore, Trinity, U Mass Dartmouth, Nichols. If your mature enough to know your not making the tour, dont feel like having golf be a "job" during college (as it would be at a d1 level), and actually want to

experience your college years, id go d3 and dominate.
