EPONS arrived- Initial impressions added

Yes, you can still get them. It is an extra $100 per head to get copper, and they are spectacular.

nope you cannot as of march 2014 Epon is no longer offering custom finishes
aside from satin. all special finishes are discontinued copper and black. these
finishes will only be offered in their 210 and 213 wedges.

they told me it is too time consuming and labor intensive. they offer it on wedges because
they pre make the wedges in different finishes in endo. while copper finish on irons they
send back an existing set say 302s (completely finished in standard finish) back to the factory
for stripping and refinishing.

trust me I've practically begged them nope! no way will they refinish any of their limited models like sus and personals.
I've asked! demand is there for sure but not worth the headache and hassle.

My 302s are in the process of getting reshafted. I can't wait to get them back. I have been without them for a few weeks now. I love my Miuras, but miss looking down at the copper irons.

You'll be second in line for the coppers. Everyone is saying that Epon doesn't offer these anymore but I got a quote from Fairway Golf yesterday say that they're able to get them in Copper.

seeing post above, i could ask Sarintr at Golfcraft, Bangkok about the issue in a few weeks when i'm home.. may have to order a set of heads just in case if the finish is going to be discontinued as an option.

oh we're playing that game now? i can play too....

pulled old shafts out last night. cleaned and prepped. waiting for me to have some time for reshaft with some Monaco's! (6 iron isn't pictured as it already is shafted up). unfortunately not as lucky as you guys that have the original epon ferrules.

Yup, I'd go with what Spoon says. he is definitely on the up and up when it comes to all things EPON.

On a sidenote, I enjoy seeing all this copper so no problem here. There has to be a way to get some sus316 in copper. that would be the ultimate set.

Yes, the AF-Tour blades are/were available in copper-chrome... I once saw a set, have no pics... but they were shiveringly lovely.

 

I mocked up a 'naked' AF-tour blade with only the 'e' stamp.. make a set in copper-chrome and drool

They were originally in black (direct from Epon, i think the wedges are still available as black also) - only sole number paintfilled... they started rusting quite quickly though - the heat and humidity in Thailand is no place for unplated carbon steel, sadly - and there's no way i'm going to be carefully oiling or babying them after every round. Incidentally, even after practice on mats and play, they didn't show too much 'nasty' wear you can get with black finishes - kind of ugly scratches and marks didn't seem to be an issue.

 

As a result, Golfcraft sent them back to Epon for refinishing to the copper-chrome about 5 years ago... perfect. Lovely wear/patina and no corrosion or issues at all (except for nervous caddies in thunderstorms ... ;-) )

 

they also 'felt' a bit firmer than regular nickel or copper-chromes sets - odd how a different finish can affect the sound and feel.

For a view of the short irons - pics of the 302's would be best, as they have slightly less offset and a smoother heel to head transition... very, very nice - best appreciated in person obviously.

We ran into some EPON irons where the lie were slightly off by 1degree. It is rare but it does happen.

BTW. awesome irons and a even better car. The LED ambient lighting is awesome inside that S63amg. A very nice way of spending $150,000
