I've done the Golf Tour Trailer in Westfields and I think they're great. Quality service and good explanation of your numbers and where they should be. I've thoroughly enjoyed heading up there there. I can't remember the cost of the fitting. I know they used to credit the fitting fee if you bought the club from them, but after purchasing MANY clubs from them in the past year I don't even know that I've been charged. Never heard of the other place, but considering GTT had a location at TPC Avenel before they started the remodel I'd say their rep is strong. And they will tweak your clubs...if putt4doh gets on here he can tell you they'll work with your clubs. I've taken in two sets of clubs to get LLL adjustments. You won't be disappointed.

Wade Heintzelman is one of the best club fitters on the east coast. Many mini-tour guys get their clubs worked on by him. Try to get with Jack Goldsby, his associate, he will take good care of you.

I couldnt agree with you more. I acutally just got fit by him on Saturday and I couldnt be more pleased. you will learn so much while your there. The only thing is he doesnt do irons and woods at the same time but will make an exception if you need them right away. Him and Jack run a great business and i would recommend them over anyone. I was in your same dilema and chose them. Its a lot more than a usual fitting but well worth the money.

I'm currious about this post. Have you worked with Gerry or Mark, or both? I'm in the mood to travel back that way from Richmond, but haven't been up there in a while. Sounds like they are still recommended.

Thanks,

Randy

At the GTT at Westfields? I worked with both Larry and Ken over there. You sure those guys don't work at the location in Warrenton? Both locations are part of the same group.

I'm not familiar with the guys up in Bethesda....but the HUGE selling point for me on The GTT was you actually hit balls into a range--not a net.

If memory serves, GTT charges about $150 for irons and woods that gets credited towards a purchase. They'll even let you break it up into 2 sessions...heck I spent about 6-7 hours all told for both.

They will definitely tweak anything you bring them...I've taken them irons, putters and woods and they've taken care of me every time.

....when you stop in, make sure you check out the picture of Kenny and David Frost above the cash register. 'Yours Truly' gets photo credits on that pic....

Thanks for all the input.

I used Wade in the past, and he's been good to me and a couple of friends on the minis. But I'm going to give Westfields a shot just cause you can hit on a real range. That always disturbed me at Wade's. Had trouble focusing on a target, so not sure my swings were as indicative of what happens on a course. It takes a while to get used to hitting into a net.

If Westfields doesn't suit me, I'll be back at Wade's. I'm sure both of these are class outfits.

Lawrence, from the way I heard it from Ken you might spend about 6-7 hours per week in there!

They guys in Bethesda are real nice...however its $250 for the consult, and no monies applied toward purchase. Its a big Fuji shop last I was in, and you are hitting indoors. Their reptuations are very good though.

Westfields I heard good things about too.

This newer place sounds interesting and i have spoken with the operator, Mike Fix. Check out highlaunchgolf.com. He operates out of the Gauntlet in Fredericksburg. USes 2 trackmans"s and has about every new shaft you can think of from Epic Ozik Whiteboard, and eveything in between. Out door range and prices are reasonable even if you just want to calibrate your wedges and not get fitted for product.

good luck

Although I haven't been there in while, it was more like 6 hours a day (cool)

But once all the new gear hits the street; they may have to charge me rent.

cashtoclose,

Thanks for mentioning highlaunchgolf.com. I was trying to reach the operator while passing through Fredericksburg last Friday. I didn't have any luck, but will try again with this information.

  • 1 year later...

Wade Heintzelman at The Golf Care Center in Bethesda, MD: (301) 652-6094. Wade's brother was a Tour pro, and Wade himself continues to fit several Tour pros when they come to the area. His services go way beyond loft, lie and shaft flex: he'll consider swingweight, grip size, and other details that can make all the difference.

I had Wade build me a driver and was really impressed. It was one of the most consistent feeling clubs I'd had owned up until I got turned on to Joe Kwok.

When I was regripping the 425 TP he built me I noticed the top of the grip was wrapped in lead tape. It was a nice touch to balance out the club that I had not expected.

I would have gone back and had a whole set built but wound up in telephone chat with Kwok and really liked where that was headed.

My only experience at Westfeilds was pretty poor. I took a friend of mine there for a full fitting and the service and patience was really lacking.
