What's it like to hit a modern 1 iron? TaylorMade UDI Testing Thread

I love my UDI's i have the 2.3.4 iron models, i normally carry the 3 and 4 iron but will add the 2 iron depending on the course and conditions.

The more I use the UDI the more I like it (it is still new to me though) I forgot to mention that it has a Steelfiber 110 S shaft in it, not a C Taper Lite shaft. I like it enough I want to buy more Steelfiber 110 for my other hybrids.

 

 

It was windy today, and we just had some rain (on top of an incredibly rainy year) so the course was soggy. At the same time, it was cold enough that there was a couple spots of ice on the grass. Because of all of this, I was around one club short (or possibly more, possibly less at times)

 

I come up on a hole where I normally use my 2 hybrid or 3 hybrid, depending on what direction the wind is coming from. Again, it was around 40ish degrees, so I was definitely shorter than usual. I didn't think my 3 driving iron would get me long enough, and I didn't want to go up to my 3 wood. So, I pull out the 1 UDI. I hit a pretty good shot, slightly high on the face. The ball ended up right around where I would normally expect my 2 or 3 hybrid to carry out to. While I normally struggle with a draw/hook. it went close to straight.

 

 

I thought the 1 UDI would be more of a fun club, but there are 2 holes on my home course that I like to use it to tee of on, so I might end up taking my srixon u65 23 3 iron out of the bag. I just received my UDI 4 iron, can't wait to hit it!

Am I the only one that finds hitting my UDI 2* w/ hybrid graphite shaft hard to hit?

 

I was loving my Titleist 690 MB w/ x100 shaft and figured I should upgrade to a new model.

 

It's been an awkward transition to say the least. They were able to get the swing to D2 for UDI but maybe lead tape on the back of the head will help?

 

 

 

Side note: That is a gorgeous Miura 1 iron. Super jealous.

I got mine and put a steel fiber 110 stiff. The UDI is surprisingly easy to hit off the deck. I'm thinking of getting the 2, 3 and 4 as well and rotating depending on wind condition and course I'm playing. Forgiving with high launch, but much better looking than the ping crossover
