Hit the 2 iron with the stock C Taper Lite stiff today and came away impressed. It didn't sound or feel anything like I expected, but that's not a bad thing at all. Felt very solid and muted, not really that hot-feeling, but the ball flight told the story. The wind was straight into on the range today and it carried with no ballooning and hit the ground running. I'm too much of a low ball hitter for it to really find a spot in my bag, but had a couple high clubhead speed college players just killing it. Upwards of 150 ball speeds and 260 yards into that wind. One is getting one to rotate with a hybrid depending on the course and the other might just flat out replace his hybrid with it. I think TaylorMade's got a winner here for the people that can use it.

Can anyone compare the UDI 1 iron with Speedblade 3 iron? They both have a similar loft and the speedpocket.

Hard to compare a 3 iron to a 16* 1 iron. I can tell.you I have hit it on course last 2 days and I am blown away. Friday I was easily hitting it 260 with a very high percentage of fairways. And today, I hit it 260+ on solid hits, and managed over 225 on mishits. I definately didn't bring my A game to the course today, but other than a few low hooky shots, the UDI proved to be a staple in my bag. Everyone who has hot it has loved it. TAYLORMADE SHOULD BE GIVING ME A COMMISION WITH HOW MANY OF THESE I HAVE SOLD SO FAR. It really is a super club.

The loft of the Speedblade 3 iron is 17 degree. Only 1 degree difference with UDI 1 iron. And they are about the same length.

Do they perform differently?

This is not meant as an attack on anyone, but forgiving and driving irons shouldn't really be grouped together. If you want forgiveness get a hybrid. The whole point of a driving iron (longer shaft, lower loft, etc) is workability and higher ball speed than a similarly lofted long iron.

Higher ball speed, higher launch and of course, more forgiving than a classic 2 iron. Some people hate hybrid.... except maybe YE Yang.

I'm not a big fan of hybrids until I found the right combination in the 913 hd. With that said I also use driving irons depending on the course but not for forgiveness. I fought the hooks with hybrids and cursed them until I finally admitted to myself it's not the hybrid it's my swing and went about addressing it.

Not to start an argument, but isn't that just a band aid? Wouldn't you be better spending the 200 on lessons instead.

I love the idea of a 1 iron off the tee, but realistically this thing will end up sitting in a bag in my office save for the occasional range trip.

Interesting discussion on what to drop out the bag.

My 3 wood is an old school Cleveland Launcher 13degree, goes about 250 great off the tee, crap off deck, (starting to think ill change)

Just bought 19degree SLDR Rescue goes 220, and high, very versatile (that's why im thinking of ditching Ol School and getting a SLDR 3 wood)

So if I bought a UDI 2iron, would it just be a case for seeing what the conditions are like and ditching the Rescue?

Bear in mind I play at Hoylake as I live there so on these windy firm courses this would seem the way to go?

Although after watching Victor Dubbusion last week, he was playing Driver, 2Iron and only a Rescue (loft on headcover said 24deg)

that's whats making me question losing the 3wood or rescue for a 2iron or 1iron

You could drop the 3 wood and go with a 1 iron to get a little more distance and keep the hybrid in the bag. I think with the 2 you are going to have two similar clubs and would have to pick which one depending on conditions. So it raises the question do you even hit the 3 wood on windy days? If not id just get drop that and get a 1.
