Can anyone compare the UDI 1 iron with Speedblade 3 iron? They both have a similar loft and the speedpocket.

Anyone?

Here is a screen shot of mine and my co workers with the UDI 1. It's hot! Hits the ground and goes.
Have you hit it off the turf and, if so, how easy was it not being tee'd up?
I actually love hitting it off the fairway. I even hit it out of the rough my last round on a par 5 second shot sitting on a hill with the ball way below my feet. Hit a low punch that carried about 150 yards and rolled another 75. Beautiful. Fairway shots are surprisingly easy to elevate, I would have no issue with going into a par 5 green with it as long as the front was open.

Also interested.... But honestly having a 1 on the sole if the club would be way cool

Thanks a ton!

I'm expecting higher launch and spin for SB, with more carry and much less roll. The TM site says SB's are designed to have a steep angle of decent and minimize roll

Sorry guys not much time but here is a speed blade 3 and a UDI 1, both were hit decent. I will say it's rough on an old man to start hitting 1 irons at 8am lol. If I get more time this afternoon I'll hit some more with each, but I have to run my jr camper's are showing up.

I'd guess the Speedblade is the first one. Launched higher with less roll out... very interesting results. Thanks again!

Very similar carry distances.... Granted one was struck better but not a lot better. One nice thing is they are within .25" of each in terms of playing length

If the speedblade was the first one, then the UDI 1 iron carries less but rolls more. Not a good option for approach shots.

It is my understanding TM completely ignored approach shots when designing the club, that is why they called it a Driving Iron specifically. I guess it ultimately boils down to weather/course and your preference. Clearly the UDI will launch lower and spin less but it will be a one trick pony

Exactly Sterson, for me ground shots carry about the same but the UDI rolls 20-40 yards more. Off of a tee the UDI carries farther though....

Imagine teeing off to really narrow fairway where accuracy is needed. If UDI rolls for 20 yards, would your tee shot be more accurate than a driver?

It's hard to predict a roll. It will roll more on dry fairways. If the fairway is slightly uphill, it will roll less.

It's probably tougher than predicting exact carry, but like any other club, you become accustomed to how much roll you're going to get in different situations and part of the reality is that when you're hitting a club like this off a tee, you're probably in a situation where 20 yards more of roll or 10 yards less of roll isn't going to drastically change the hole for you...

I don't think many players added a 16*/1 iron for Hoylake. Most seemed to choose a 18*/2 iron, I'm guessing because you can stop it reasonably well on a par 5 second shot.

Makes me want a UDI 2 iron. It actually has slightly less offset than my 712 MB 2 iron! :swoon2:

Took mine to the course yesterday - I bought the 16/1 iron. Roll is crazy and the club is actually really forgiving. Only hit 1 ball of the ground which was a low bullet, but off the tee it's fantastic. Feel is pretty muted - doesn't feel like it blasts off the face, but then you look up and the ball just keeps going. Launches higher than my 20* H4 3 iron and goes 20 yds farther, easily.

@crainiac76. IMO it depends on where and how you like to play golf, but I think you are missing the point of these golf clubs. If you want something that bites or doesn't roll much from 200 plus yards get or use a rescue / hybrid club.

I'm not sure I see the benefit of this club. For years we've been hearing about the benefits of hybrids instead of long irons. And now they produce a "1 iron" that rolls forever and doesn't stop on approach shots.

If I'm hitting an iron or hybrid off the tee then I want to land it in a certain spot. Having 40 yards of roll can bring trouble into play because roll isn't as predictable.

I understand that this could be a good club in very windy conditions. But I think this is going to be one those clubs that people rush out to buy and after getting over the 240 yard 1 irons they will sell it on BST and go back to hitting hybrids. Maybe the very very good players could find a spot for it, but most golfers won't benefit.
