It's going very well thanks. I outline what I'm up to in this post: http://hoganswing.com/4th-ben-hogan-update/ Basically I'm just working on improving my swing plane. My setup is pretty close to Hogan's. As close as it can be considering my body shape etc. Unfortunately I have injured my back doing some manual labor work so golf is not easy at the moment but I'm hitting the ball as consistently as I have in a long time. It's very encouraging and was well worth the effort to do this project. I'm just looking forward to the time when my back is healthy and I can start to crank up my swing speed.

a couple of things you missed from hogan's approach into the golf ball

he stands erect with his right eye down the target line with his shoulders open to target and his right foot closer to the ball (versus where it ends up at address)00

he then lifts the left heel adds in knee flex and steps half way with his left foot and moves the right back into position

this then leads into the waggle

I have found approaching the ball from the side has improved my ability to line up accurately

Hogan still stood behind the ball when he was judging certain shots to see trajectory, lines, etc but he always walked into the ball from the side. It takes some time to get used to especially if you did the modern way of approaching from behind, however once it becomes a subconscious habit it takes no time at all

and the youtube hogan follower guys MSE or whatever drives me nuts, he has improved his pattern some but he is not close to several of the principles hogan teaches

his set up and into his "first move" are not close, hogan's first move was to get the club moving on plane with the shoulders and he would then at hip high or so start his pivot with his lower body. This is how he got the big shoulder turn and the hips led the downswing, the MSE guy completely blows this principal therefore he will never create the speed that hogan had

MSE has a good looking swing, but his I don't see his hip action anywhere near Hogan:

hips start too early and therefore stall too quick in BS, and he doesn't get his left hip forward and out enough to start the DS. Much more modern principal looking swing versus a hogan type acton

I suspect that injury originated in the mechanics of that swing my good man. Please ignore your swing plane and focus on the feel of the swing as a whole. If you do this you'll begin to FEEL what's wrong with your action and that is when the real fun begins.

Working on shaft plane has to come after getting the hips right. At the top, both his back pockets can be seen from the target, and after a big lateral slide, his belt buckle is almost facing the target at impact. That's a huge range of motion for a bad back.

I don't agree. Working on the plane has helped my ball striking out a lot. Last 10 games I'm averaging 12.5 greens in regulation which is not too bad for a once a week golfer. About 8 out of 10 people suffer from a bad back at some point in their lives. A golf swing, no matter how you do it, is one hard movement on the body.

I meant in duplicating Hogan's swing, which you're not close to because of the hip action. If your plane work helped you with your current swing, that's good, but if you manage to copy his hip action, you'll have to rework the plane because you'll be in different positions throughout.
