Just a thread to talk league results

I have been in a golf league at my club all summer long. (18 weeks). I have been in first place most of the time. These past few weeks, my game has really come around. Rounds that I have been playing that is not part of the golf league have resulted in scores in the low 70's. Personal bests.

These past 3 weeks in the golf league, ( 9 holes ), I have been even par going into the last 3 holes. One time, I doubled bogeyed the last 3 holes giving me a score of 42. The next time I doubled two of the holes and bogeyed the third giving me a score of 41. Then I doubled 1 and bogeyed the two giving me a score of 40. Frustrating to say the least .

Last night, I was hitting about the best I have all year. I was -2 with 4 holes left to play. I was making all my putts. My long putts were within a foot of the hole. The last 4 holes are the easiest holes on the course but I have yet played that way in the league. I bogeyed the last 4 holes. I missed two 2 foot putts. One 3 foot putt. Left a 20 foot putt 10 foot short. That gave me a score of 38. I moved from first to sixth place.

Now the point to this thread is not to talk about me. I would like to hear other stories where they were either in first place, shooting their personal best, or just playing below their handicap and then BOOM, the train jumped the tracks.

probably lost last night in the first week of my league playoffs. Had to give the other team 9 strokes. Sucks being a low capper sometimes.

All year I have been shooting 37-41 in league. Highest was the 41. Last night something felt off and I dropped a 48! Driving was fine 7/7 in fairways. I had no clue what was going on with my irons. One of the most frustrating rounds I have ever had. I would tell you my putts but I had a couple one putts thrown in there because I chipped it close. So that's not really an indication of how bad my irons were. Screw it. I had 13 putts and no GIR's.

I do feel bad for the low cappers in a league. I am giving several strokes because I am technically a higher capper. Those strokes that are given to me is generally the reason I come in first. There is a guy playing that is a scratch golfer with note strokes given too him. He shoots a 36, I shoot a 38 with 3 strokes given making my score 35. Doesn't seem right but I do enjoy the money

Our men's league is broken up into 14 flights based on handicap, with about 7 or 8 players per flight. We play straight match play each week. I got 2nd place in the first half of the season and won some pro shop credit. This half of the season I am in a very close 3rd, and if I win tonight will be a solid 2nd. Here's the kicker though, I was playing the guy in 1st place a few weeks ago. I was up 3 through 5 and we got called in for lightning. No points awarded. Damn!

One thing that was not mentioned when I joined the league was that there is a mandatory dinner that is billed to my account each week - $23! That has added $100/month to my membership. I am new to the club, so it certainly has been beneficial to meeting more members.

I just started playing in October of 13' I've got myself to a 12hcp and starting to trend lower (broke 80 3 of last 4rds) well if had a lot of looks when I turned in my 38/40 card 2 weeks ago, but the next week went 46/42. Lol

Thank gawd league is over, I've never heard soooo much bitchin'. " there's no way that guy is an 18"...... " I had the best round of my life....." Poor club house pro gets caught up in the drama. On our league the team won that was the better team because they are consistant, and they would often leave directly after their matches. Not even the eighteen cappers had a chance against em', especially when playing better ball. It got to be frustrating standing over a four foot put knowing it would put me one up for the win and rolling it by five feet. I'm rambling on... angerly posting about league and it eneded two weeks ago. oh well theres always next season. Swampcooler whats with the $100 a month for dinner?

Welp, my teammate and I somehow won our match in the first round of the playoffs. Undoubtedly, it involved some funky math by the commissioner, but I'm not complaining. Next up- we have to give 29 strokes to our 15 next week.

I've played in 9 hole leagues for more than 20 years, Most of it was a 4 man team where there were 16 team points (4 points per person) available each night of play. It was 2 points per match stroke play and 2 points per match match play. All matches were handicapped.

The last 2 years I played a 9 hole 2 man league.Again all matches were handicapped but there were 6 team points available each week. 2 points each person match play and 2 points for low team net.

I've learned to NEVER go low the first night of the season. I really enjoy the match play and have learned that it's much more important to win holes than it is to shoot low scores.

Last Monday (8-18) was the last night of this years league. It was position round so #1 played #2, #3 played #4, etc. My buddy (77 years old) and I (55 years old) had been around the top of the leader board all year. We had a small lead in 1st place playing the 2nd place team. We showed up at the first tee to discover that they were using a sub for one of their players. This guy had subbed quite a bit throughout the year so it was more surprise than anything. He' was a 5.5 index to my 13.3 but my league cap was 6 to his 1. Luckily we were able to win all 6 points and cinch 1st place. The play was not stellar but came down to who controlled their nerves better. I really enjoyed the battle.

What kind of formats are you guys playing in your leagues?

My league playoffs are Tuesday coming up. The team we play has a guy who is a 15HCP for 9 holes. My HCP for league is 6. I am giving this guy a stroke a hole. Last time we played them the 15 HCP shot a gross 41 and crushed me. If he even shoots in the 40s this week I am going to wrap a club around his neck

Hands down the worst thing that has happened to me this summer was qualifying for the us amateur tournament.. Conditions were super windy 30mph and more. I shot 75 the first 18 holes and was only 2 back after the first 18. Didn't think much of it until I eagled the 2nd hole. Made the turn at even. Last three holes cost me from qualifying. Going into 16 I was even. I went birdie bogey ( missed a short par putt) and double(put it in the fairway bunker and bladed it over then 3 putted) on 18. Let it completely slip out of my hands. If I par 17 and 18 I qualify by 1. If I just par 18 I'm in a play off for the top spot. If I even bogey 18 I'm in a playoff for an alternate spot. Pretty frustrating..
