Eagle Landing and Amelia River are in great shape. I don't know anything good or bad to say about Eagle Harbor.

How are the layouts? Greens in good shape for both?

You cant pay me enough to go back to north hampton. St johns is in decent shape, greens are good but stupid soft. Rolling 10.5-11. Depending on when you play but be ready for a 4:30-5hr round anywhere in jax unless you play private. Depending on when you are going to be here, you can come play at my club with me. Send me a pm.

the reviews for north hampton on golfnow.com are only either 4 or 5 stars out of 5 from april until october 30th so i'm not sure when jdhallissey's experience was on this track. it's been a while since i've played there but all memories are positive. if you want to make a trip just a bit further up from north hampton just across the georgia line i highly encourage you to check out davis love iii's course named laurel island links. i played there 2 weekends ago and in fantastic shape

North Hampton is an awesome layout and a great course for a public access track. Make sure you play off the right tees as its a brute from the tips and even the blacks at 6800+ can kick your butt. I am good friends with a member there and usually head down to see him twice a year. It has suffered from bad management in the past but that has turned around this year. I played there this last weekend and you can see that the money they have spent tidying it up has really helped. Conditions were good. My only complaints are 1) sand in the bunkers is not that great 2) afternoons can be SLOW.

There is a Rees Jones private across the road from North Hampton called Amelia National. Have not played it for a year or so but that was a decent course and given their lack of members may be a possibility to get on with a phone call?

Yes, made the trip already.... courses I found from best to worst were:
1. King & Bear----fantastic shape, greens were fantastic, layout was challenging
2. St. Johns CC---great finishing holes, windy day, course played hard & fast especially the greens.
3. Northampton---great course
4. Southampton---wasn't able to finish 17 & 18, had to catch a flight, but a great layout
5. Eagle Landing---ok layout, tight course
6. Eagle Harbor---fluffy, slow greens, no food available @ 8:00 am for a quick breakfast, no cart girl.....not very well run!

Hey Scottleo...

I would have to say that Eagle Harbor would be my top choice, greens are running fair this time of year. I will actually be down in the area from November 21st- December 3rd looking to play a couple of these course, let me know which ones you are going to be at. I find it much better to play with another person, to help each other out and work on our strokes.

King & Bear is great, but it's also part of the "touristy" golf package.. I'm glad you had a chance to check out Eagle Landing. I love that course. I would've had you check out local favorites - Hyde Park and Bent Creek. Also, Orange Park Country Club (sounds private, but is public) and Blue Sky Golf Club - Both of which recently reopened after closing for a year. The greens are quick and both courses are in great shape.

I'm glad my city hosted you well and you enjoyed your golf trip.

Will be visiting for a few days while my better half is taking care of business just southeast of Jacksonville. Should have time for 3 mid-priced rounds (no TPC Sawgrass or King & Bear unfortunately) and have come up with a short list of nearby public tracks and would appreciate any feedback on which ones to play/avoid.

Was only in town for a few days but thoroughly enjoyed all 3 rounds I got in. In order of preference...

1. St. John's Golf & Country Club
Challenging layout but fair and in excellent condition with a good practice facility. Closer to St. Augustine but worth the drive.

2. Golf Club at South Hampton
Subdivision golf but still a strong layout with decent conditioning. Also a bit of a drive south of Jacksonville.

3. Windsor Parke GC
Okay layout & conditioning. Located in the burbs southeast of the city so somewhat tighter....several interesting holes though. Great value.

I will be down the week of Christmas and looking to play either Tuesday the 22nd or Wednesday the 23rd. Right now the front-runners are Blue Sky and North Hampton. Any others to seriously consider? I'm not looking for a place that will test every aspect of my lackluster skills... just have a good time on a nice track.

Neither of parents golf, nor do their friends, so I'm going on what I read around here. If anyone is interested in playing as well, I would probably welcome the opportunity to not have to play by myself.

Signature!

I played North Hampton back in August and enjoyed it a lot. It does wind through a subdivision and some houses are close to the fairways/greens, but if you can block that out, it's a nicely designed course with good conditioning. Nice all-grass range and bar and grill too.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
