Need San Antonio Recommendations for our group of 12 - feb1

Hi Folks:

A group of us (money no object) want to play a round on sunday, Feb 1 in San antonio. We are all staying at the Marriott Rivercenter with rental cars.

I was reading through, it sounds like these are our best bets?

Canyon Springs

Bandit

Quarry

Republic.

I'm open to suggestions!

I don't know how far it is, probably something fairly close is preferred given we have to get back to the conference.

If you're going for impressive, you could always try the JP Marriott courses (Oaks or Canyons). Thats on the NW side of town. The one they play the PGA tour event on is HARD though, and the other one isn't easy. The Quarry is right in the middle of town. I always thought it was kind of gimmicky with a linksy 9 and a 9 in the quarry, but I haven't played it in years.

You could always go nostalgic and play Old Brackenridge.. but it's not going to be in nearly the same condition as other choices.

I thought I read recently that TPC San Antonio has gone private. Is that correct?

Both TPC courses currently offer daily rate tee times, maybe because it is the off-season - if money is no object they should definitely be on the table.

I would look at either of the two La Cantera courses (Palmer or Resort). I think they are a bit more successful than the Quarry at using the natural features of the Hill Country to the course's advantage.

Olympia Hills Golf Course is a bit outside of town, but it's not too bad of a drive and the IMO the prices are extremely reasonable for the quality. Definitely the best publicly-owned course in the area.

Since I'm a fan of Pete Dye, I'd have to go with TPC San Antonio Canyons. La Cantera Palmer would be 2nd, followed by TPC San Antonio Oaks, La Cantera Resort, and then Quarry.

The Quarry is really a tale of two courses. The front nine is basically a prairie style course, and nothing too exciting. The back nine is routed through an old quarry, and is quite nice. The real draw of the course is that it's quite reasonably priced. If price is no object, I'd certainly lean towards one of the resort courses.

Looking at the TPC's website, it states that the 2 courses are only open to members and (Marriott) resort guests. If the OP is staying at the Marriott downtown, they might be able to get them on the course. Otherwise the La Cantera courses will be the choice.
