i live in houston and in the 90-100 degree heat in the summer the winn dri tacs are the best grips I've never owned.. i few years ago i tested a few different grips because i really liked the "look" of the golf pride Multi compound but those only lasted 1 day at the range.. when its wet or cold they are great!!!

The wife is on her second set of dri-tacs, and they have worn much faster than her previous grips. I tried them, and swapped back over to a set of lamkins after 5-6 rounds, as I really didn't like the "squishiness" of them.

What would you guys suggest for a good midsize grip that's around $6?

Golf pride 2g Wraps....for the price, great grips (except in rain..but that's what a rain glove is for)

Count me as another guy who will never play Winn grips again. They wear incredibly fast -- and by wear I mean the outer layer crumbles and separates from the inner layer. They claim you have to clean them carefully according to their instructions after each round. Screw that. You don't have to do that with Lamkin or GP. I won't touch them and I cut them off any clubs I buy that have them worn or not.

I had the dritacs all last year on my clubs with two rain rounds and didnt have any issues. the only wear i saw when i went to regrip was one spot on my driver where the right thumb touches, otherwise they were still playable. i did wipe them down every few weeks, the only thing i'll say is when i went to take them off they practically crumbled off. i switched to the gp cp2 for a bit more tack. my friend had the tan excels and wears a black glove and it rubs off onto it easily i thought. he still has the same grips after a couple years but doesnt play near as much as i do

If you like wrap grips that have some shock absorption, I like both of these. They will not be as soft as what you are looking at, but softer than most standard grips like Tour Velvets. And they can be had for much cheaper than the Winn's:

Lamkin Perma-Wrap ACE - discontinued, but at this price can buy two sets for the same as one Winn. And will last you 4x as long
http://shop.lamkingrips.com/

Tacki-Mac Tour Pro Wraps - not as well known, but made in the USA, super durable and very comfy. Will last a long time.

Put me on the list of people who won't use Winn...they are great new, but just don't last very long.

I use both and like the dri-tacs a bit better as they seem better in the rain. For the record I rarely golf in the rain but wear rain gloves when I do and they are fine. Perhaps they wear a bit faster than others but I just love the feel and don't play or practice that much (perhaps 30-35 rounds a year). If you like them go for it. For the record I can't stand the GP new-decade multicompound grips which a lot of people fall all over themselves for.

I'm starting to wonder if my grips last longer than average as I don't wear a glove so there is less friction. They still look pretty new after 1 season of use with no signs of wear.

Interesting. I also don't use a glove and while I'm not saying Winns last as long as GP, they easily last the year for me except on my PW but I hit that club in my yard almost every possible day of the year, including today since it was above 35 degrees. Usually replace it three times.

I had new Winn DriTacs on all my clubs when I started this past year and after about 2 months 4 of them were already worn out (driver, 7-iron, PW, SW, LW). I actually liked the feel of the DriTacs, but that was on a set of Anser irons that I had in rotation with J40's and MP68's, so they weren't even being played every round. I usually don't wear a glove, but when it's humid out I'll use one when hitting my driver. Best thing I ever did was switch to No1 grips. Love the feel, very tacky, and they are lasting very well. I still have GP Tour Velvet on one set and I really like the feel of those too, but my personal preference is still the No1 grips.

Worst grips you can get...it's like wearing Skechers
[/quote]

wtf does that even mean?

winns will wear faster than other grips - the severity depends upon how much of a death grip you have. between the two mentioned by the OP, dri-tacs will perform better in subpar conditions (rain, sweat, etc.). if you like the tackiness but worried about wear, try the Golf Pride CP2 or the Lamkin ACE line.

I can second that recommendation on both of these wrap style grips. Both are nice. The Tacki-mac will LOOK like they are wearing out with some surface roughness, but the Tack goes all the way to the bone, so while they may look a little beat up, they don't feel it. I've never cut a Tacki-Mac off that had outlived its life yet. They're a very good budget grip.

On the other hand, I've cut off many Winn's that crumbled into little eraser shavings as they came off, letting me know that they were about ready to die even as they maintained the outward illusion of playability. Winn's durability is not even a close call compared to other brands. All have their fans and pros and cons, from the premium Iomic's to budget Black Widows, but if you look around you'll see that only Winn's sport the rap of wearing out and falling apart fast. IMO, you have two types of Winn guys: those who are still on their first set and those who've learned their lesson and won't go back.

well I guess there are 3 kinds since I've been using them for years and love them. Nothing comes close in terms of comfort and feel to me.
