Miura CB57 vs. Baby Blade

redhead

Sooo....for those interested, I should have an interesting comparison for all of you shortly. I currently play Mizuno MP4 irons...recently picked up a set of CB57 heads (which I expect will be my daily gamers)...and ALSO just picked up a set of baby blades. ....once Baby Blades get here, I should be able to do an interesting in-hand photo comparison of the CB57's, the MP4's (i.e. a "normal" blade) and the Baby Blades.

So, as promised above, the Baby Blades arrived today and as I said to a buddy of mine, "Even as a blade lover, I may have finally found a set of irons that scare the $hit out of me!" That said, I'm really excited to at least occasionally embrace the absurdity of putting these in the bag. As noted above, I've been gaming the MP4's for a couple years now and they're great (and I don't find them intimidating). The BB's are definitely noticeably shorter heel-to-toe and this is most pronounced in the mid-to-long irons. I wouldn't say they're meaningfully thinner than the MP4, but they're definitely more compact in terms of blade length. The CB57's are, of course, thicker soled and much more forgiving in appearance (although sill very attractive compact package).

Anyway, below are a few pics comparing 4 irons and 6 irons. Thought folks might find it useful to see some side by side comparisons of the BB's compared to "normal" blades like the MP4's.

Sounds like a nice a fence to be on!

If you don't think you will mind playing a smaller profile iron, the BB is by far the best iron I have owned.....and for all the talk of forgiveness and blah blah, I hit them better too. Granted I am accustomed to my irons, but I did a pretty comprehensive shaft fitting, mostly using the titliest cbs and staff v4 as those are my forte cbs out there....and I brought my BB 7 to hit against them. I spent over an hour hitting balls and shafts, and eventually I wore down and the swing fell apart, but my BB I hit striaghet and farther more consistently than ANY combo in trial except I did hit the PXIs pretty damn tight. Furthermore, to say they felt better in direct comparision is an understatement.

Now I know that this is mostly becuase it is my set, and I am very comfortable with it, but doesn't that just show that familiarity and comfort mean more than some tungsten here and there and blah blah?? I was frankly surprised. I was most surprised that they were the avg longest combo, and surprised that I get away with more or just have it be "easier" with the cbs. I have had about 5 other sets since my BBs, and I am done proving the definition of insanity. They are the be all end all for me. My point is, I am a 5-8 cap depending (an 8 now becuase of driver mainly) and they truly are pretty easy and comfortable to hit as long as you trust them and more importantly

yourself. After a season with them, all other irons will look and feel wrong, not the small blades looking so small, your perspective completely reverses.

Great, thanks for the comparison. I'm on the fence for CB57, MB001, and the BB's

I could not make up my mind between cb57's and the mb001s so I got a combo set. Pw,9,8,7 are blades then 6,5,4 are cavity backs. I love them. My fitter joel did a great job with tweaking the lofts so there is an appropriate gap. I love the set!

What exactly is the blade length of the Miura Baby Blade 7 iron from hosel to toe? I have a combo set of KZG forged Cavity/blades, the blades in 7-AW and they are big for blades. I then put my early 90's Macgregor VIP CB92's (tiny Cavity, might as well be blades) next to them and the Macgregors are tiny in comparison, but I find them no more difficult to hit then the larger KZG's.

The last few years, I've messed around with combo sets (Fourteen FH1000 & FH900), full blade sets (Hogan Apex '99), and just put the BB in the bag...I have Brand NEW, never hit CB-57 heads waiting on the bench if the BB doesn't perform for me! I just finished this build and they are MOI matched to my 6-iron D3, which makes a big difference for me. Essentially, the longer irons are lighter Swingweight, and short irons are higher SW. The "Heft" of the set is the same, so I can put the same move on all iron shots.

I can say the few swings I've made into the backyard net feel pretty good. I tend to hit the ball heel side , and I have no problem hitting PW-4 in the BB, IF I put a good swing on these. I will echo others' comments here that if you don't hit the BB well, it's not going to be fun. However, your likely to miss with a larger club head just the same, just might be a smidge better miss
