The 1966 TR Anser 2 is so money and it doesn't even know it yet

Since Puppet (his pictures specifically) was partially responsible for my purchase, looking forward to posting some pics of my 1966 TR Anser this weekend (along with my CC2016MVP headcover).

Additional thoughts/realizations after my round yesterday.

  1. The XR driver will be shelved temporarily. Back to the Fly Z, with which I don't have as many big misses.
  2. The 1966 TR Anser 2 is so money and it doesn't even know it yet.
  3. The Deuce Banger would have been very handy at Penderbrook, and any course with short par 4s. For my game, at least.
  4. The knockdown. So many instructors discourage the short, steep swing with lots of shaft lean, but I am reverting to using those shots more.
  5. The shyte. Lots of goose poop at Penderbrook, as always. Probably all over my clubs, balls, water bottle, shoes, etc. Need to carry a gallon of Purell for after rounds there.

Doth my eyes deceive me? Did Puppetmaster just praise a putter? How long has it been in the bag?

I just got a Fly Z yesterday and am giving it the maiden voyage this afternoon. It at least looks nice so far :)

If I say I like a putter, then clearly it's been in the bag for a grand total of 1 round.

The Fly Z works for me as much as I get the urge to try something else. Even on bad days, my misses are short and right, and are mostly playable. I also know that if I miss left with it, it's not a duck hook or pull hook, usually a straight pull. Chief noted to me recently that on average all the holes I pulled driver, I did well, and whenever I tried to club down off the tee, I did something dumb. This was before I tamed the Aeroburner 3W, but still a good observation regardless.

Almost every time I hit the XR at Pleasant Valley (but for 2 of the last 3 holes) and yesterday I was in trouble. Playing at Redgate with Boogs and the round with Chief at Bull Run, I was either in the fairway or wasn't far off with the Fly Z. Not saying the XR is a bad driver, but I need all the help I can get, and a consistent 2-way miss with the driver probably doesn't help.

Edit: 2 for 5 with the XR yesterday, 3 for 9 at PV. And this is not fairways hit, just playable.

Edit again: more like 2.5 yesterday, on the 325 yard 9th, I pulled hook a drive so badly that was headed to the 8th fairway, but hit a tree and came straight down, left me with a 150 yard shot over the trees, which put on the green.

Both Anser and Anser 2 are nice. I can't decide which one to use now. WRX problems.

It only took me 4 days into my self-imposed hiatus to buy a new club.

Fortunately, it was a putter (SC Squareback 2), since my hiatus will likely be extended for a few weeks due to (what I hope is only) a sprained MCL. Putting may be all I'm doing for a few weeks.

since you are not spending money on rounds of golf during that time, it's like that putter was free, right? ;)

City - Are you as upset as I am that we missed out on the opportunity to purchase custom King Cobra lapel pins?

Yes.

I swear I check his site almost every day and the day he put those up, I missed it. I think it was between cheetos and french fries.

Played today. Tees off at 720 finished in about 2:45. Buddy I played with is a good golfer with a beautiful swing. Gets cases of the lefts a lot though. Plowed through the front in +5. Even par through 16 and bogied the last 2. Seems normal lately. 79 on a new, yet wide open, course. I'll take it.

Hit the Taylormades really well again. Domes, we may be able to talk about the Edels.

Golf Talk Thursday : Red Rag Challenge inspired topic today. If you could turn one par 4 at your home course into a short par 4 by moving up to the red tees, which one would you pick?

I think that the 17th at Clustered Spires would be a good short par 4 from the reds:

It would be a poke to get it onto to the front of the green, but doable for longer hitters. The bunker on the left comes into play with a 200-215 yard layup and you can be blocked out by trees if you go too far right, so it would make for an interesting tee shot. It's also a large green that's well guarded by bunkers. I think that I would hit one up the right side with driver to leave a good angle into the green and not have to come over the bunkers that guard the left side of the green.

NOT blades, and not muscle backs. There, I said it. It's a cavity back. Maybe they're being ironic.
