Miura PP 9005 vs. PP 9003

Has anybody hit these new 9005 irons?

Do they have a Straight neck or are they offset?

How do they compare to the 9003?

I have a set of both. Fundamentally different irons. The 9005 has a bit of offset, yes, but it's a multi-material design with a significant undercut in the cavity. It is Miura's first foray into this sort of club. And yes, it is forged. The shape also is rather different from the 9003 and 9002. You don't see them come up on eBay too often, though that is where I bought mine, new and from a well-known JDM seller. My set came with a lightweight yellow Tour AD shaft that I was considering swapping out with the Recoil shaft that I typically use, but after hitting them I did not see the need. I have a bunch of JDM sets and am gaming this one right now, no exceptions. I cannot tell you how the 9005 feels or perform in steel shafts. I gave up steel a few years ago so that I could practice more without the stress to my body and joints, and in the process slowly fell in love with lighter weight graphite. When a good golfer learns to hit good lightweight graphite shafts, the effect can be game changing. I am hitting my irons longer than I ever did in steel, even in my younger days, and the 9005 more than holds up its end.

Old-school Miura enthusiasts likely won't care for this design, which is no-holds-barred game improvement. But the feel is there. Does it feel like some of their more traditional designs when you flush one? No. It does not have the concentrated weight behind the sweet spot. Then again, I am not one to go on and on about "feel," which is subjective and hard to translate one golfer to another. Hit it solid and they feel great, or so it seems to me. I like the club better than competing brands in the same style, though I doubt the 9005 will be a big seller in the U.S., where Miura fans may find the look off-putting. They are longer, of course. The weight distribution scheme and thin face and stronger lofts make that inevitable. That said, they probably are not much longer than my Romaro cavity backs (Type R) that came with the stock lightweight graphite shaft, or even my old Onoff 2011 set, which goes a mile. Don't play the Onoff much anymore -- got sorta tired of the offset and really high trajectory. We'll see how these two feel and perform compared to the new Onoff Kuro set that I just ordered. Those have smaller heads than the 9005 or Romaro Type R. I hear nothing but good about them.
