From what I can tell all of these only track the number of putts, which I don't find that useful. Is there a system that tracks length of putts?

Your score card and you guesstimating the length. I have a game golf, and while I like it, the yardages are off (at least for me). I'll laser the pin at 159, stick it to within 3-4 yards and GG tells me I hit X iron 147 yds. Mostly happens on iron shots, have been fine with fairway, hybrids and wedges. Driver can be hit or miss a bit.

So for something as precises as putting distances, nothing on the market will work that well yet given the price points we are at currently. Maybe wait a few years.

Was afraid this might be the case. I'm really wanting a better way to track putting stats. Any other ideas?

Amazed nobody can chime in on how to better keep track of putting distances. I've been trying to just walk off the steps, but it's a pain in the @ss when recording scores for 3 other people and also a bunch of different games/bets.

You can track putting as well as other stats using Intelligolf. You have to pace off your putts for distance but you can track them in certain distance ranges. The following link gives you an idea what you can track. http://www.intelligolf.com/stats.htm

I used to use it years ago but without any GPS capability as the device I owned at the time didn't have GPS capability.Everything was entered manually. I don't know what the GPS version actually shows though as it doesn't support Apple iPhones.

Need to learn how to estimate distances yourself, and just write them down in on the card. Let's say you two putt from 25 feet, and after the first putt you're 3 feet from the hole, just write

25/3

If you 3-jack from 50 feet, and you had putts of 50, 5, and 2 feet, write

50/5/2

You should be able to fit that on the scorecard.

GPS isn't accurate enough to warrant tracking putt distance yet, as it's only accurate to +/- 9 feet.

I use shotbyshot.com to track stats which has gotten more detailed. For putting, yes, you have to step off, but its about ranges not whether you are better at 9'7"aor 9'6". If you screw up and call your 13 foot putt a 12 foot putt, it isn't going to wildly change things in the database. I discovered after about half a season that my 1 putt stats from the 11-15 foot range were sub-standard. So, I worked on those lengths. Found out that I was a better lag putter at 50 feet than 30-40, so worked on those. That kind of information. They'll analyze one round free, so maybe you could try it with their sample card and see what you think. I developed a method for scribbling notes on the card that's pretty easy. I also always enter the round soon after in case I forgot something. For instance, I may have missed the yard of my approach on the 6th hole, but I remember that it was an eight iron, so it would be in the 150-175 range (which is one of the categories).

Thanks for the tips fellas. I guess I'll have to stick to walking off the steps.

Yep, I used to do this. It became a problem one day when one of my playing partners asked to see my scorecard. Ooops, I mean opponents, ahaha

They saw 25/3 and insisted I took 25 on a par 3. :slow_en:

To not short it, GameGolf does tend to give a very approximate location. When you reach down, it spots the pin.

I say approximate because as others have said, you're inviting a relatively large margin of error for consumer GPS.

Besides, the length of your putt isn't a terribly useful stat. The only thing you can really learn from something like 35/5/1 is that I need to not run it by so badly. Well, no kidding Reginald! Was that 5 short or 5 long? Or 5 left?

Consider what you're trying to improve first. For example, are you thinking you might miss it high/low one more than another? Or just left/right? Are you trying to do the "17in past the hole" thing? Whatever it is, you have to approach what you're trying to fix.

Look at it this way... first putts are generally a nice thing when they fall, but you can't really expect it often. Second putts are generally judged as binary; it's either a "proper" putting finish, or a "poor" finish with a 3-putt. So try treating your stats a little differently. Instead of 23/2, something like 23/2<- might show you that you're missing a lot to the left of the cup. 23/2H or 23/2L might tell you that of the 13 2 putts you had, 11 of them were to the low side (under-reading break). It isn't much, but gather more useful data. The first putt distance is not that critical! What's statistically critical is gathering info that's relevant. I'd even suggest that it's more important to collect missing high/low than how far away your putt was.

14 Pings. Blueprints are incredibly good. Fetch is the most underrated putter on the market. Don't @ me.
