And some people still insist on believing that the clubs you and I can buy from the OEMs are "the same" as the pros use..

The vast majority of clubs used on Tour are essentially the same as what you or I can buy at retail. This is a highly customized club made for one of TaylorMade's high profile endorsers. You can't make generalizations based on this putter.

Exactly. And the irons are for sure not retail either, special grinds, weight tolerances are spot on, less offset. Wedges? Like night and day, the difference there is huge.
Time to wake up and see the truth. This does not mean a retail club won't fit you, it very well might. But it has VERY little in common with tour stuff.

For irons specifically, this is so far off. Special grinds and spot-on weight tolerances have nothing to do with tour versus retail. A talented club maker can take your retail heads and tweak the grinds of the leading edge and sole on your irons and wedges to give you the exact turf interaction you desire. They can also weight sort heads and shafts if they are big enough and take the time/money to have that much product on hand. That's all that's being done for most of the guys on tour.

Yes, there are obviously tour only items such as non-offset B heads, one-off milled prototypes, or prototypes for future models. But my point is that the vast majority of players are NOT playing that type of club. Most are playing the same heads as you can buy at retail, but they've had them modified and built to specific specifications. If you need this level of customization, you can pay to have it done.

I was in the process of creating a separate reply to your prior response, but yes I generally agree with you regarding TM driver heads.

That said, I think it's important to make the distinction between what usually happens and situations like the R1, where the models played on tour by 99.9% of the pros were totally different than what you could buy at retail. For example, with SLDR and R15 most of the tour heads (apart from the ones with tour only lofts) are just lighter heads which can be customized by adding weight later in the process. For the most part, they're the same "model" club. With a retail club, you're buying a finished head, so it's almost unfair to compare the two heads. They can be the "same" in the finished state, depending upon how the club is built for a given player.

Certainly non-adjustable clubs in the last 5 years, like AeroBurner and Superfast, have tour only heads that were made so they were easier to customize loft/lie, but how important is that distinction? A consumer has almost no ability to have the loft/lie of one of these clubs changed, so did it matter that they were slightly different? But technically they were different, so you are correct.

The tour iron and wedge heads usually come in overweight so that the grinding does not make the heads too light. Anyway, what you are saying is that the "only" thing I need to do is buy clubs, have them disasembled, get in touch with a "talented clubmaker" that then then will modify the heads..And this "only" process makes you say that off the rack clubs are "the same" as tour clubs? Ok..I happen to think what you are describing is vey far from being something that can be described with the word "only".
Now tell me how that talented clubmaker will adjust for retail heads not being weight sorted and so quite often being all over the place weght-wise? The heads might be the "same" and come from the same factory, but they have been weight sorted before they go to the tour van or "the Oven". This does not happen to reatil heads that are mass produced/assembled. Plus, tour only stuff, especially from TM is quite common I would guess.
If you were to line up the bags of every TM staffer I'd be willing to bet that the "vast majority" of bags contain tour only stuff, B-heads, proto-heads etc etc, and I mean through the whole bag. Stuff that have very little in common with the clubs I can buy off the rack at a golf shop.
