Rain resistant pants (not packables/goretex)

Does anyone have any insight as to any differences between UA Storm and NIke Weatherized? It appears form looking at the pictures online that the UA Storm might be a little looser fitting.

Yes, that's correct. I wore my UA pants for the first time yesterday with morning temperatures in the low 50's, and they are a slightly looser fit then the Nike's. Of course, they're both rather slim compared to traditional baggy rain pant.

The UA's are noisier that the Nike's. The outer layer on the UA is a bit shinier, and more prone to making a "crinkling" sound. I like the belt loops on the UA better, as they have them in the traditional 4:30, 6, and 7:30 positions. 'Helps keep the material from slipping under the belt. However, the UA seem to be more hip hugging than the Nikes. If you have a gut, the UA tend to slide down more than the Nike's, even with the belt cinched tight.

To the guys that bought these rain-resistant pants, do you find that's more practical than simply getting a pair of Goretex (or other) pants? Do they come in a shorts model for the summer time, or only long pants? I've always simply stashed a rain suit in my bag on "iffy" looking days. If it rains I just slip on the suit while needed.

I finally got to test the Nike Weatherized in the rain on Saturday. It was about 55*, 2 club length wind, and rainy. I wore my Goretex jacket and the weatherized pants. I can tell you that the Weatherized pants did their job. They kept me warm in the wind. They also kept me dry ALMOST the entire round. I was walking and dont carry any umbrella. So the rain hits my jacket and runs down onto my pants. By the 18th it was raining pretty hard. I finally started to feel some moisture around the pocket area where the rain tends to hit after running down my jacket. If I had been pushing and using an umbrella I wouldnt have gotten wet. I'm sure of it. They dried out within an hour of getting home and I ended up wearing them to take the kiddos out trick or treating.

These pants did everything that I wanted. They kept me warm and dry. These will be my winter/fall pants for the rest of the season. They are slimmer fitting than my goretex pants, and they hold up to rain quite well.

I find them more practical than my Goretex pants. Goretex will keep you dry in torrential rain (trust me... I already encountered that this season). However, I normally only get hit with a light rain. My normal pants get soaked right away when they get hit with even a little rain. The Weatherized pants stay dry. The reason why I started the thread was so that I could find a pair of pants that were stylish instead of wearing balloons on my legs that would keep me dry. I wear my Bandons during the winter because the drainage isn't great around here. Because of that, it is difficult to get rain pants on/off over them. So putting on/taking off rain pants always turns into an ordeal. Something I'd rather not deal with at all. With the weather around here it could be raining hard enough to warrant rain pants... then 5 minutes later it's sunny and you're roasting in your extra layer. These pants are an in between that solve my dilemma!

I have a expensive FJ rainsuit that I purchased a number of years ago for a trip to Ireland. I keep it in my car/bag for emergencies, but it is rare that I use it much anymore. The UA Storm/Nike Weatherized pants will keep you dry in anything up to a heavy rain. They are also very good for winter golf in my area (35-55 degrees).

I was looking for heavyweight, windproof spring/fall golf pants. I was more interested in warm than waterproof. Being waterproof is a bonus. I have full rain gear in my bag, but as others note, it's a pain to put on when you have a light, passing shower. The UA/Nike pants are good enough for light to moderate stuff.
