Stromberg Wintra trousers are fantastic. Classic styling but 3ply material makes them warm and waterproof without being restricting.

How high a temperature can you wear these without overheating? I like the idea of the extra layer, but in the fall we get days that start out in the mid-40's, but will reach the mid-60's before the end of the round.

I haven't wore mine this season as I just got a pair of grey ones and typically the weather has improved. They feel like a normal pair only slightly heavier. So don't think overheating will be a problem. Got mine from Golfbase and they also sell oneBay for £49. It's around 15 degrees here which is about 60 degrees Fahrenheit so similar conditions.

Spray normal pants down with scotch guard (I actually prefer silicone water guard, it's an orange cap).

I'd be ok to try this. How much breathability do you lose?

Not much. I've done it on work pants plenty and they're fine. Done it on a few pair of cotton trousers I wear in the winter. Haven't tried any of the performance fabrics. I spray hats and bags down with it too.

A lot of the convertible pants (legs zip off) repel water nicely, add a pair of Patigonia silks and you are styling in many types of conditions...BB

Try nike weatherized pants, they are like flat fronts but made out of a more water proof material
[/quote]

These ^^^^^. They are water resistant and also pretty warm. Between these and UA's version (which I think they discontinued) I almost never wear my full FJ rain pants anymore.

Full price retail is probably close to $100, but I have been able to find them on sale for around $50 (usually in the spring however).

They're made of a stretchy material, but does the waist stretch? Many of us "bigger" guys like a little elastic in the waistband.

No, not really. The waistband is pretty much like regular pants. Not much stretch in the waist. I wear 38/34 in normal pants and same in these. N

Just picked these up for $60 on Nike's website. Wanted something weatherproof and a little heavier for fall here in NC. It tends to rain a lot and gets cooler.

That's a great deal! I bought some UA storm pants on Amazon for $60, but I may have to try the Nikes too.

Does anyone know how they fit? I have a tough time sizing. I wear between a 30-32 depending on brand. UA is 32. Adidas is 30. I don't own any Nike pants..... :(

The UA elemental pants have the stretch waist band. I have the same waist band on the shorts and I like them a lot. I'm not a bigger guy but it is nice to have them stretch a little for when you bend down and whatnot.

Ok. I just received the UA ColdGear Elements Storm pants. I mentioned in a previous post that I wear between a size 30-32 depending on the brand. I wear a size 32 in UA. The 32 is a great fit in the waist. The legs fit fairly loose though. I was hoping for a more modern slim fit. The reason I wanted these was so that I could have something that looked stylish on and off the course and provided some protection. The material is heavy and would definitely block wind, and I could see it holding up to some water as well.

I'm going to purchase the Nikes and see if there is a difference in the legs. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Until then, the UA stay in the box.

Just ordered a pair of the Nike as well. For those asking about sizing one review I say when I searched from this thread said they stretch pretty good so order normal size or even 1" less. I stuck with the normal. Should be good in the winter here.

OK, I see these are the ColdGear pants, which I believe are slightly different than the standard Element pants. Your Amazon order will likely come from the UK, so it may be a while. I ordered a pair of Nike Weatherized pants on Tuesday from Nike.com, and they arrived yesterday. 'Nice.

The material is very stretchy, almost too stretchy. Lol. The pants are hard to put on. While the waistband is not elastic, there is a fair amount of stretch to them. I'll be wearing them tomorrow, as the temperature in the morning will be hovering around 40 degrees.

I really wish the U.S. companies would offer more than one or two lengths. I wear a 29 length, and ordered the 30, which is the shortest length available in my waist size. Normally, I wouldn't mind a slightly longer pant, but for something designed to be worn out on a wet golf course, I'm certain the bottom inch is going to pick up mud and grass. I'm probably going to have to spend additional money to get them hemmed.

Dang. I wish mine would show up that fast. I wanted to wear them tomorrow... when it's 50% chance of rain. I was figuring they might come from Oregon, but they ship from Kentucky. Supposed to get here Monday....

Came home after a long weekend of travel to find my Nike Weatherized pants waiting for me.

Initial impressions:

- The tag says water + wind resistant, which is reassuring. For some reason Nike doesn't mention this on their website.
- Fit is a touch slimmer than what I'm used to, and perhaps a tad shorter as well (this is my first pair of Nike pants, normally wear UA)
- Pants are lined with a thin, fleece-like material.

We'll see how they perform this weekend, but for $60 they seem like a perfect pant for fall golf in New England

Played two rounds this weekend with the Nike Weatherized. We had frost delays each morning, and the temperature was hovering around 40 degrees when we teed off. The winds were light, so the pants didn't really get "stressed". On top I had a base layer, long sleeve polo, vest, and light rain jacket. The jacket was off by mid round.

I can't say I noticed the pants one bit. They did their job. As the weather turns wetter and windier, they'll get more of a work out.

I don't like the location of the belt loops. Instead of having loops at the 3, 4:30, 6, 7:30, and 9 positions, they have them at 3, 5:30, 6:30, and 9. I don't need two loops in the back. As a result, the pants ride under the belt at the 4:30 and 7:30 position, and I have to adjust the waist more than I normally do on a regular pair of pants. 'A tad annoying.

Also, the front pockets need to be a bit deeper.

Lastly, as I noted earlier, the length is too long. They should be offered in additional shorter lengths.
