July Traverse City Golf Trip- Little Help

I am looking to wow some buddies with a trip to Traverse City for some golf.

Wow there are lots of good courses in the area.

 

A requirement: Arcadia is a must play- probably going to do the overnight stay and play there. I think I would like to book that on the day before we fly out so we can play 18 and 18

 

There is a good flight up on Thursday landing at 1pm.

My first thought was to get something to eat and go to LochenHeath for the $95 rate. Then drive somewhere to stay that would be near golf for Friday morning??? I don't want to drive more than an hour from there after a day of travel and 18 holes of golf.

 

I don't have a clue where to play Friday, but it should be near the Thursday lodging.

After Friday's round I would like to drive to Arcadia. Getting in before the sun goes down.

Golf there Saturday and Sunday before we leave.

 

Or I'm open to playing within an hour of Arcadia and staying the night where we can be at Arcadia comfortably before Saturday's play. Stay overnight at Arcadia and then drive to the airport for a 6pm flight

 

Any help would be appreciated. My group loves fast greens, and beautiful scenery. I thought Forest Dunes would be nice, but its kind of out of the way.

Don't waste your money staying at Arcadia. It's overpriced because of a lack of lodging options nearby.

 

We stayed here a couples years back, and it was awesome. Ended up costing each guy less than $100 for a long weekend, versus $125 or so per guy per night, for double occupancy rooms (1 king bed and 1 twin rollaway).

I think Arcadia has gone down on stay to play prices if you are in a group. I believe its $190 with the round of golf if you stay in one of their new places with Max occupancy. Their website is down right now for me to confirm. But thanks for the link I'll check into it.

The condos? When I checked those out, they were very limited in their kitchen furnishings. I think they had a microwave and a small dorm fridge. Basically, they want you to eat at the clubhouse. I think an opportunity was missed here, because the groups I manage on up north trips typically bring our own food and booze, and then grill out (at least for one or two of our nights). Also limits our driving.

I'm pretty sure you can get your group of 8 out to Kingsley. Logistically it makes sense and fun factor it makes sense.

Absolutely no problem with Kingsley. If a cottage is available makes sense logistically to overnight there as well.

I played Arcadia and locenheath last summer. Both were great golf courses. Locenheath is a great golf course and some really great greens, the first two holes were kinda blind but after that it gets really good. Maybe one of the top 7-10 practice facilities I have seen. Great food in the restaurant as well.

Personally I'd skip Tulleymore. I was unimpressed the one time I played there and will not return. Course felt boring to me, conditions were average at best when I played it, certainly didn't live up to the hype, IMO, and nobody in my group of 8 disagreed. Personally I'd make the extra drive over to Forest Dunes.

Thanks, we did end up skipping Tullymore and booked Arcadia and Boyne (Bay Harbor, Arthur Hills, and Crooked Tree)

A ga-ming is nicely priced for lodging, the Sundance course is real nice and a great value, 6935 yards from back tees

I've done Agaming several times and always liked it, especially Sundance. I've always done it in the fall and the greens were pretty slick, despite heavy rains many times I was there.

I hope this isn't a stupid question. Does Kingsley accept some limited public play? I thought it was a private club. You make it sound pretty easy to get a tee time. Can I just call and ask politely and get on? If it makes any difference, we'd probably be looking at a mid-week TT during August or early September.

It's private but they will let you play if you pay for a fore-caddie and the unaccompanied rate (going to get expensive)

Awesome course, well worth it. But its going to be a $200+ round
