Can someboby tell me why?

I finally broke down and watched an LPGA event on the weekend and for the life of me I cant figure out why a caddie can line up the player before she hits her shot to make sure she's on line with her intended target. Are these girls not the best in the world.

Faldo was the best player in the world when he had Fanny Sunesson checking his alignment on the greens.

 

I imagine it's a confidence thing; if you think/know your alignment is right it presumably gives extra confidence to the player.

 

Personally it would put me off..

can u also believe that they shoot 19 under for four days when all but maybe 1% on this board could while hitting their drives around 230 to 250 maybe...thye are good and ya it would help confidence if u know you are hitting it where you would want to...

I remember natalie talking to butch about that during one of the episodes of her show. he wanted her to try to stop doing it. obviously she didn't take that perticular piece of advice. although, I have seen quite a few LPGA players having their caddy line them up. they'd kill me on the course, so they can do whatever they need to do, and more power to them.

Why have a caddy check alignment? Among the better players (period) the most consistent problem is alignment. The Rules of Golf don't prohibit caddy assistance, why not use the rules to your advantage? Wish I had a caddy. The rules were changed about 5 years ago so that the caddy cannot remain on the intended line during the stroke; therefore, the caddy steps away. Sure it looks kinda hoockie, but it sure does work. Working on my own alignment problems -- aimer is broke -- and with the changes in my address routine, I have seen amazing results in just 2 rounds. The player just can't see how closed he/she is setting up to the target.

Its not just the LPGA, its the PGA Tour too. The caddies help with alignment more in putting on the PGA Tour but they're there.

Was there not a putter a couple of years ago that was weighted so that it would stand by itself and the player could then step away and check alignmnet from behind? I'm sure I read about in Golf World or some magazine, good job they didn't catch on, that would add another half a hour at least to the round.

I remember seeing that standup putter at a local golf show. It was clearly labeled as "non-conforming."

I too have noticed this but don't find it negative. I would actually like to have someone there to check my alignment...esp. on long approaches. When my game starts to go south...it's almost always alignment related.

 

 

And I have to agree......those chicks on the LPGA (short knockers and all) could probably beat every single one of us....from the tips. Those 7 and 9 woods get dialed in like nobody's business.

That's why I still use a 9 wood. Deadly accurate from 210 yards for me. I too wish someone would check my alignment and aim during a round!

I noticed that recently too and thought the same thing as you, Lefty. I suppose if it's allowed (shrug), no big deal.

 

But to me it just doesn't fit the whole idea of doing it yourself. I consider alignment part of your golfing skill. Of course, I've never broken 80, so that tells you how much I know. :D

carrying your own clubs could be considered part of "doing it yourself".

Alignment is probably the hardest thing to do in golf consistently. It is a great benefit to any player who has a caddy who can identify whether or not they are correctly aligned to their target. It doesn't just happen on the LPGA tour.

Yes Boo's caddy was doing the same thing at the Open last week (maybe does it all the time?).

Im not knocking the LPGA or anyone else, believe me,all I wanted to know is,if they are PROS not amateurs,Isnt the game is suppose to be harder?,IMO they should have to pick there own line to make the shot . Its different when reading greens a caddie should help,he is helping with the line of the putt, but not to line him up to make it. To me thats why they call them PROS.Im not saying its right or wrong just one mans opinion.

personally i think your opinion is inconsequent and wrong. either caddy help is allowed or not. i don't see how you consider green-reading advice ok, if helping with the alignment is wrong. Caddy yes or no. If caddies are allowed, players can take all their advice within the rules. The game is hard enough even with a caddy.
