when will the first courses open

All depends on the weather. Mother Nature makes that decision, not the golf courses.

, historically Boston area can be sometime in march or early april and based on the warm weather long term forecast I was wondering if this year would be early or late depending on the amount of snow you have and your long term forecast. .

Nothing will be worse than last year, courses still had snow on the ground into the second half of April. This year so far has been very light in terms of snow (knock on wood) so I'm really hopeful we'll be teeing it up sometime in March.

A number of courses are open all year, weather permitting. If this snow we have now melts, there will be courses open in the area.

Triggs in Providence is open. Cape courses are starting to open up as well. Captain's and Bay Point will be open this weekend. Dennis Highlands is looking to open as well.

Montaup country club in northern Rhode Island is open all year round according to its website. I might go play it tomorrow or Wednesday. Has anyone ever played it?

Fresh Pond in Cambridge is opening on the 12th.

Sassamon Trace in Natick (9 hole course), Maplegate CC in Bellingham and Blissful Meadows in Uxbridge are all open in the Metrowest area. I played 9 at Sass last weekend. Was in decent shape considering all the rain we had just received. I'm sure most courses are hopping to open sooner rather than later.

 

Edit: Sandy Burr in Wayland and Newton Commonwealth are also open. Newton is walking only as of this weekend.

A bit further inland and south than you guys, but man has this El Nino been great for the northeast golf season!

 

I've been able to get out at least every other weekend since November. Of course conditions haven't been perfect, but hitting a February golf ball into a blue sky instead of a simulator or that goofy dome thing, sure is a treat!

 

Myrtle 10 days away, spring shortly thereafter. This is the off season that never really was.

Sagamore in lynnfield is open today with one temporary green

Harmon in rockland opens today! (private but anyone in the area should check it out) South shore CC, DW fields, and Rockland GC are all public courses open already in the south shore. Places will be opening all over, doesn't look to be below freezing anytime soon, winter is over!
