Sorry, but hands down Johnny Miller is the biggest a-hole to ever pick up a mic. Give him his due credit for being a winning player, but I find him to be an arrogant and condescending broadcaster. Examples are "I can't believe he's going to hit that shot, total mistake to do that, gonna cost him big time." etc etc. Player makes the shot with ease, and his reaction is "He got lucky there. I never would have done that."

In addition, watch the number of 'predictions' he gets wrong. I think it was two weeks ago, setting up a putt for the viewers. It went something like "Pretty flat green here. Ball should not move at all. Just a straight putt." Player sets up, makes his stroke and the ball goes like 4 feet left over a maybe 30 foot putt. Tons of break. Even Feherty can be heard saying "What was THAT?" like Miller had completely misread the green, and the player had listened to his advice.

He constantly compares his course management to what the players choose, and seems more than happy to whip out a couple "I told ya so" comments every broadcast.

Like I said, great player, lots of wins, and you can't take that away from him. Maybe he needs to dust off the sticks and go play the courses the week he's calling the events. Actually putt the greens, and see what works on second shot approaches to par 5's on tour.

As a broadcaster though, maybe his vocal inflection and 'man-splaining' to the audience is the problem? He just assumes the viewer is an idiot, and conducts himself accordingly.

Miller's been a broadcaster for 26 years. I like him, But I don't think about him nearly as much as you do.

Golf Channel has an international feed, which goes on for us, while the US coverage has commercials. The commentator who did this on the weekend told the World that the Colorado River, which runs along this golf course was the same Colorado River, which dug the Grand Canyon.

Nice.

Judging from the accent, he was American, not Aussie or British.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

99% of the golf I watch has been recorded. I watched most of the Match Play this way. I have "Gamer's Thumb" from using the FF so much. I can't imaging watching a golf telecast (other than the Masters) live.

It's so much better fast-forwarding through the commercials, and a lot less time out of your life.

FORE RIGHT!!!!

I've noticed since Ferherty has moved to NBC, he does not talk as much, and certainly he does not joke as much. It could be that NBC actually has too many analysts (Miller, Koch, Jacobsen, Maltbie, Rolfing, Begay). However at one of NBC's earlier telecasts (it might have been the Pheonix Open) Ferherty made a joke about the nick-names of certain course features, and he mentioned he would like to name a tough sand bunker the "Devil's Nostril". Miller immediately said "That's enough Ferherty". I did not hear Ferherty speak for the next hour or so. Miller is a very religious man and Ferherty's remark might have offended him, but I think Miller was trying to put Ferherty in his place and remind him who has the seniority at NBC events. I've also noticed that since then Ferherty has mostly talked about on course action and has almost left out any comic relief like he got to do on CBS. If it came down to Miller's dry commentary or Ferherty's comedy, I'll take Ferherty every time.

They all show too many commercials, but they have to pay for those huge purses somehow. My biggest beef (which echoes many here) is the amount of non-golf footage and time spent. It seems like CBS especially is trying so hard to get the ratings up by catering to non-golf diehards, believing that interviews and human interest stories will get more people to watch. It's like they don't know that we all want to see players hit shots, especially with all this young talent.

The main target audience for golf broadcasts are golfers; and they want to see golf shots. That's why the Masters does well, dedication to product "on the field". I watched NBC this weekend a lot and noticed Johnny pointing out the shots the players should be able to hit to succeed on a given hole and the players couldn't pull it off. I found myself intrigued, rather than annoyed by this. Johnny Miller was a great ball striker and he KNOWS how to pull off a shot. His candor is refreshing and his knowledge, although delivered awkwardly at times, is the best out there. Losing the US Open to Fox was a huge downer.

I am looking forward to the Open Championship in July, Johnny will on his game for that one. Feherty is hilarious and a very smart guy. Reading between the lines with his comments is great stuff.

I like Johnny. Sure it seems like he can be cranky and a little bit of a know-it-all. But unlike moronic babblers like Faldo and McCord, the guy is a breath of fresh air. He knows his stuff, he doesn't ramble on without a point, and he usually brings solid insight.

As far as mis-reading a putt from the broadcast booth I mean geez, it happens. Even players on the course misread putts.

Could someone get Notah to an optometrist?

LOL every shot he just says "looks like it's on a pretty good line", then it ends up in the bunker.
