Anyone played at Tomball Country Club?

The membership seems extremely affordable, and its a private club so thats quite cool. Its a family membership too, so that means me and my wife would both play. They have a 3 month trial membership of $160 a month, which from looking around looks like as cheap as it gets in Houston.

Any info you guys have would be appreciated, thanks!

I don't know anything about Tomball CC so I can't comment on it one way or another. I can say that a little bit further out High Meadow Ranch is a great course that is a lot of fun. It isn't private, but I think they have a good monthly rate (something around $225 for a single). It would be worth it if you could make it out there to play enough. You also wouldn't have to worry about what they would charge for an initiation fee after your "3 month trial" membership was up.

You're very close to me as well. I live on Jones Rd right across the street from Jersey Meadow. I must drive by your place most evenings.

The drive to High Meadow Ranch is almost the exact same time as the one to Cypresswood.

If you are looking at private courses you could probably work a good deal at Raveneaux CC or Northgate CC, especially as a junior member. Northgate was REALLY cheap...something like a $750 initiation fee and then only $85/month. I never played the course, but no matter what it looks like it could be worth it for that price.

Tomball CC was a 9 holer. They might have 18 by now, they have been saying that would add an extra 9 since Johnson was President. The course isn't much and the facilities aren't much more. The one plus to the club was that they used to have Bridgestone stuff cheap, as Jason Clarke (the local rep and great guy) was a member. Tomball CC is not something you want to waste your time with when you have so many other options. I would contact Keith, KGK, he is a local heir and plays many of the worlds finest courses. Plus he has a great beard.

they definitely have 18 holes now, for me right now price is more important than how good the course is really. theres alot of options but not many when it comes to something affordable.

i looked up all the courses within a 30 minute range of where i live

i think the best deal ive come up with is longwood, $900 annual free + $75 a month

when it says annual fee, is that a deposit that you'll eventually get back in the future or you are just never seeing that money again?

Obviously each club has their own fine print, but it's safe to assume that the $900 is basically a down payment, so you'll never see that money again.

Here is what the deal @ Northgate CC...

Junior Memberships

Our newest membership classification, the Junior membership, allows young golfers and their families to enjoy country club golfing and lifestyle for less than the price of public or muni golf. The younger you are, the lower our monthly dues, Initiation Deposit, and guest fees.

It works this way. If you are age 27, your monthly dues are just $85 with a one-time Initiation Deposit of $750, and greens fees for friends and guests are just $25. If a 27-year old Junior member plays golf once a week, his cost per round is just $19.61. If spouses and children also play, the cost becomes even lower per round. In other words, all the golf you and your family can play for just $85 per month. As each Junior member becomes one year older, his dues and guest fees will increase slightly.

I don't think you are going to find private golf for cheaper than this. If you can get past the $750 initiation fee you are going to have golfing privilages and full run of the clubhouse for about $1000/year until you are 27 when the rate only increases a slight amount. On top of that you can bring guests out for cheap and the membership would include your wife if she has any interest.

I'd be careful with Longwood, that course had always been iffy. The condition has for the longest time been questionable at best. A few years ago the clubhouse had major problems also.

I play a lot of "customer golf" at Longwood. It's close to HP. I've never seen it in good shape. The greens are pretty much terrible all the time. I like the layout of all 3 nines, though.

Agreed, the lay-out is good with one tough 9, one easy 9, and one intermediate 9 but why risk it with the conditioning.

I haven't played at Jersey Meadows yet. I keep telling myself that I will get over there for a twilight round some day after work, but just haven't done it. I play at Champions most of the time, but will play just about anywhere if the company is good.

I've played at Jersey Meadow twice. If I am correct, there are electric lines that run across the 10th fairway which I have hit into twice off the tee on both occasions, lol.

so i finally got my a** out and played a round today

i went to bear creek cause its on my way back from work, had to pick up my paycheck today

so i went for the cheap challenger course ($21) i was surprised to get a cart included in that price so that was fun

it was a little wet cause of the rain last night, but the greens were in great shape and not many people on the course, i did get stuck behind a few slow players but they eventually let me play through (of course it happened to be right at the tee for a par 3 over water which i proceeded to stick not 1, but 2 balls straight into the water cause i was so nervous with people watching me)

all in all it was a good experience and i think ill definitely go there again

worst part of the trip was i got to the first tee and forgot my glove so i played terrible all day with my hands shredded haha

edit:

played the same course again yesterday (28th), managed to shoot an 85 even with a quadruple bogey on the 17th, blah! same exact thing happened again, i had to play through a group and i got so nervous that i topped my tee shot about 10 yards into the left rough, and 4 shots later i wasnt even up to their drives, so embarrassing...

i played longwood for the first time today

it was literally like playing in a muddy pool all day, it was so gross

i can see it being a nice course once its dry though

I played there last week. I needed the longest tees in my bag to get the ball above the grass on the teeing grounds. It wasn't much fun at all.

I haven't been out to Longwood for about 10 years. But give it a break guys, its rained here in Houston for the whole summer. There's nowhere for the water to go and its tough to cut grass when the ground is sopping wet. Everywhere is wet right now, but look on the bright side. It has been considerably milder this summer than most. Too bad its raining the whole time, so you can't really enjoy the slightly lower temperatures.
