Hogan Find At Goodwill

Found these Hogan Medallions, Hogan laminate Speed Slot woods and the Hogan SunJet bag at the Goodwill today. $20 bucks for all of it. The bag still has the rain cover tucked away. Unfortunately missing the 8 and 6 iron, but still too good to leave behind. Woods are 1, 3, 4 and 5, but I need to re-whip the 5 wood. Also a nice Spaulding TPM 3 putter, and a bonus Hogan "Forty-Seven" wedge. Would love to find an 8 and 6 to go with it, but I will have to wait until I find ones at a decent price on Ebay. Hit the 3 and 4 at the range and was impressed. They are slightly offset compared to my '76 Apex, but still very solid. Really very good looking clubs, can't believe I finally lucked into something at the Goodwill after reading about some of the finds folks on this board have had. Keep me in mind if you stumble upon a 6 and 8 iron with Legend 3 shafts :derisive:

Best information I could find is... roughly 55 degree wedge made in late 70's. It has the words "FORTY-SEVEN" on the sole of the club. Some said it is supposed to replicate a wedge he played in 1947, but I really can't find much about it.

Isn't the "Forty Seven" a 47* PW? Analogous to the "Fifty Three", a 53* wedge.

The loft does seem to be higher than 47* on that club from what it looks like next to an equalizer PW

Hogan made several wedges in the 50;s early 60;s, 42,43,45,47, 48,

100 minus the number, so a 48 is 52 degrees, a 47 is 53 degrees etc

That would be great news, I look forward to hearing more. There are a couple on Ebay, but it does not appear that any have the Legend 3 shaft. Thanks for checking. The grooves on these are in great shape so I am hoping they have plenty of rounds left in them.

These clubs will have to be regripped also. They have Legend shafts which are larger diameter from what I understand. There are a couple threads on this that I have read, but none are very imformative. Just looking for something like a black, tacky Lamkin grip. One of the threads points to a Burner Bubble TM grip. Any suggestions on a good grip to use for these legend shafts?

Bingo! I have a broken set of Hogan mid-70's Directors with the Legend 3 shafts. I can send you a 5 and 7 iron and you can pull the shafts and return the heads to me or I'll try to find someone by me who knows how to do it. They have pins and 40 year old epoxy.

I don't know of a specific grip that would be better or worse. But I can vouch for the use of a grip stretching tool from Golfsmith. I re gripped my grandfathers old woods and they have the oversize butt diameter. The tool made it easy. Without it was borderline impossible.

Very nice find. I have only gotten one Goodwill snag, but it wasn't this good.
