Can anybody suggest a good simple golf app for an iPhone? Don't need all the "Bells & Whistles" just yardage and score with a good selection of courses. Thanks. :ok:

I use Golf Pad. It's free, but you can upgrade later if you want the "Bells & Whistles".

I use Golfshot. I recently upgraded from the free version to the + version (not to be confused with the pro). The + version adds distance to front and back of green and hazards. You can also move the target around to get distance to end of fairway on a dogleg or anywhere you want.

I paid $20 for this 7 or 8 years ago, and 3 or 4 phones ago, could be the best $20 I've ever spent. Has worked on just about every course I've played, & yardages are almost always right on when compared to someone's garmin or the cart's gps. So far hasn't drained too much battery playing 18, wish I had enough time to see if it could go 36.

WOW. There are so many now. Ever since I upgraded my iPhone to 6Plus, I've tried a few different ones. As my signature line suggests, less is best for me. I realized I don't need 90% of the "Bells & Whistles." All I really use is yardage. If we're not playing a "Nassau", I even turn off the score card. I guess the only negative to many of the Apps is the battery drainage. Using just yardage on SwingxSwing has helped that problem considerably. I go home after 18 with around 45% charge. Bottom line is: Most of them are pretty good but like anything else (Especially if you're a Techie) I guess you get what you pay for. My SwingxSwing App is the free one which I guess most golfers would not enjoy but it works very well for me. My game is still good but my distance vision has gotten a bit fuzzy and I just need to be sure + or - a few yards of how far out I am. Thanks for the input guys. Keep hitting em" long and straight. Well........if you're a senior like me.....Straight! (LOL) :golfer:

Use to use NikeGolf 360 before switching to hole 19. If you want simple you should look there. It can be setup to have club selection and other features or you don't have to. Chose your course from nearby or recent lists, chose starting hole, and it starts with a GPS overview of the chosen hole with yardage displayed. Gives a yardage to center green as well as a pinpoint yardage that can used for layups and hazards. Between holes you're given a scorecard with FIR, GIR, putts, sand saves, and penalty shots. You're able to go back and review any past round and given a handicap.

 

Hole19 has all needed features without being cluttered in a simple to use interface.

Check out 18Birdies. I used it for the first time today. Very simple to use.

 

Also has tournament leaderboard capability. Much better implementation than Gamebook.

I've used hole19, golfnow, trackmygolf, and I'm on to 18 birdies. At first I was looking for something compatible with my iwatch. Hole19 would be the winner there. But I didn't like the map overview as much when it came to hazards or layup distances. Just wasn't that clear and kind of laggy on my att iPhone 6+. I usually leave my phone in the cart so if I would be more than Bluetooth distance from my phone, watch wouldn't give me distance. I then stumbled across 18birdies and haven't looked for another app since. You can log stats if you please but the nitty gritty of it is great. Quick to load and find your location, can choose your own distance and gives front middle and back of green distances.

Golf Pad for me. Having been using it for about 2 years, just the app in free mode. Will probably dig out my old LG G Watch and test out Android Wear functionality as well. If that's solid, I'll probably invest in the Tags sometime around Christmas.

I used it for the first time yesterday and after 9 holes it showed "pad locks" over the numbers and told me to upgrade to see yardages. Then I started getting pop up ads when I just looked at it. WTH? Did I download something other than the free app?

ive turned at least 4 or 5 of my playing partners (and even one of my caddies) onto Hole 19.

their customer service is spot on as well, with any course updates, etc. and their turnaround is 1-3 days max.

and the social networking portion of the app is also actually quite good. i follow Peter Finch on their and he's got videos and such right there in the feed.

First time caller, long time listener.

Just started using a new one. PocketPAR. Rangefinder is free. Not all the bells and whistles but serviceable. Cool features though are stats. Allows you to track your shots without hardware. Seems they can generate crazy stats from it. Strokes Gained, proximity to the hole and even putting percentages. They you detailed summaries after each round of what you did well and not so well.

 

They have a subscription model for advanced analytics. Haven't committed to subscribing yet but maybe after a few more rounds. The demo account stats look pretty awesome. Prices seem reasonable. Customer service was good. They didn't have the course I'm playing this weekend and added it overnight. Can't wait to give it another spin.

I have tried various ones and have stuck with Swing By Swing for the long haul. I have about 50 rounds logged and is really helpful for just keeping overall scores, calculating your handicap, and gps yardages via google maps. The free version is more than enough, I pay the extra $10/year for the "looper" upgrade just because it includes slope and wind speed and a more detailed yardage guide for hitting into greens, but it all really isn't necessary. I have found that the google satellite maps layout for courses to be better than other gps apps which create their own image for the hole because it allows you to see how the grass is on the course. Allowing you to better differentiate between rough and fairway.
