Masters trip advice

I was lucky enough to score some tickets to Monday at the masters. So, as with any golf nuts, my friends and I started to plan our trip. We will be flying in to Atlanta on Sunday and got a place to stay in madison ga. We are looking to play one round Sunday before checking in to the hotel and was wondering what would be a good course between Atlanta and Madison?

Ashton Hills Golf Club in Covington,GA was a nice course to play. Its really close to Madison,GA and just off I-20.

Thank you very much. I will check it out. I am noticing that all the real nice tracks around ATL are private. Not many good close option to the city.

We paid like $60.00 USD per player to play with cart on the Sunday before the Monday practice round. I booked the tee time about 2 months prior.

I don't post much here, but couldn't pass this one up...native of Atlanta, lived in Augusta for a couple years....can't do a golf trip down I-20 w/o playing Cuscowilla!

After going to the masters, seeing the price of the merchandise and then seeing the markup, its insane! Overall all the swag is very reasonable on the grounds. Once you leave the gates the price is insane!!!!!

Cherokee Run is in Conyers, just outside ATL, on the way to Augusta. It's nice, Arnold Palmer design. I think it's better than Ashton Hills. I have a pretty detailed list on Atlanta courses and reviews on the Southeast section if you check that out it reviews most of the courses.

Great Waters is a public resort(access VIA the Ritz Carlton) - its expensive and likely very expensive the week of the masters. cuscowilla went private again but does book corporate golf the week of the masters. I'd budget 250-300.00 a round masters week. Another great option ='s http://www.palmettogolfclub.net/index.html --- very private Allister McKenzie - allows public play masters week....again expect to pay 250-300.00 if you want to play anywhere nice.

They do go up, but if I remember correctly it's not by that much. The course is city owned and doesn't get a ton of play. Always good deals on golfnow, I'd imagine even during masters week.

Thx for the info. We are flying in from New Jersey so anything is a deal. Dog tracks around here will set you back 50 + for 18.

What time are you flying in? Honestly it wouldn't be that bad to drive over to Auburn.... from the airport it's only a little over an hour, and you can play the RTJ course there that is hosting the PGA Barbasol classic this week. Better than anything you can get on here, and probably cheaper since it won't be masters marked up.

If private courses open up for the Masters is that likely to only be on the Monday-Friday or would I have any chance to get on the week before?

Check out Savannah Lakes Village in McCormick, South Carolina. McCormick is about 35 or 40 miles east of Augusta and just north of I-20. They have two excellent courses and have a " Play the Lake " Masters week special. 100 dollars with 48 dollar replay. I played both courses last week and both were in impeccable condition. The Monticello course has hosted a Hooter tour event for 15 years. The terrain is just like The National, i.e. very sloped, but not " mountainous ". I stayed at the nearby Hickory Knob State Resort Park ( which also has an 18 hole course ), spent 2 nights for total of 144 dollars. All three courses along Lake Thurmond. Give this place a look; you may be surprised.

Where you guys coming in from? We are coming from Jersey and staying in Madison. Still undecided where we are going to play. I called a few places and they all said November is the time to make a masters week tee time.

We're coming in from Ireland but staying in Atlanta. Heading up to Augusta on the Sunday. Have a car hired for the week so have no problems going that extra few miles to play some nice tracks.
