Really curious about this option now, mostly because my fairway strikes are getting WAY more consistent than my driver strike....

 

And that prompts this question for the forum:

 

Do you swing it like your driver or your fairways?

 

Probably more like a wood than a true driver. But somewhere in between is about right.

 

Off the tee I use longer than the iron tees and swing through on it and not up. Wood on the fairway the same and try to clip it.

 

Hopefully this makes sense?

I started with alot of low hooks but they turned into alot of draws.....Maybe the shaft loosened up???

 

Man, I don't know.. I guess that is a possibility... most likely user error though. I'll throw the old TM R7 back in the bag until I figure it out.

 

I, and a couple of others who have a mini now, with the KK Shaft found when we really tried to chase the shot that it would hook like hell. If we just swung and let the club do all the work it was fine. If I tried to power it or steer it, it would hook.

 

This might be what is happening. Now that you have settled into it you might be trying to steer the shot rather than stand and just swing?

 

so workability is an issue?

part of my fascination with this club (havent hit it yet), is idea that I can work a weak draw out of it, and be able to rely on my high fade.

 

have others found it difficult to work a draw out of this club?

here's my dilemma, I want to play it at 11*, upright, with a 1" tipped 68g Matrix Ozik Xcon6 Xtra stiff trimmed to 44"

AND

clip it off the deck if need be, but sweep it or come up and through with it on a slightly elevated tee on the box.

 

am I crazy?

I don't work a ball left to right or vice versa. Never been able to do it and don't try anymore as it ends up causing more issues than I need at the moment haha! But I believe some others have no issues with workability. My swing is slight different as I find if I try to hit up on it, I miss or top it.

 

I should of explained this better and apologise, The clipping part is a feel rather than a way. I tend to be steepish with Irons and to a very lesser extent woods. I find as this is a bigger head, if I try and hit it like a Wood I end up bouncing into the ball before hitting it. So I try to visualise a clipping off the top of the grass sensation and hit it this way (maybe take the tops of the grass off).

 

I rarely use the Mini outside the tee box unless a couple of scenarios :

 

1) It is sitting up in fluffy rough and can swing through it (IE Like being on a Tee)

2) Long par 5 with a very wide fairway that I have room for error on.

3) Feeling good and swinging fantastically on the day.

 

For this I still carry a 3w but finding more and more I am using my 5w anyway off the deck rather than these 2.

 

I carry all 3 for different distances more than workability. Depending on the course and landing zones off the tee I use one of the woods. For example at my home course I can go 4 straight holes without using driver (Iron and Wood combo) or could leave it at home and use a 5w every hole.

 

Out on the fairway, I make a judgment call based on my swing that day and if I trust the woods or layup with an Iron too 100m out.
